The macOS operating system is characterized by its slick user interface, great optimization and overall simplicity. Despite this, we would find points in which it is rather unpleasantly lacking. One of them is, for example, working with windows. While, for example, in the competing Windows system, working with windows is intuitive and fast, in the case of Apple's system, we are more or less out of luck and have to do it differently. Specifically, we are talking about attaching windows to the edges, setting how much space they will actually take up on the screen, and the like.

Macs offer us perhaps only two options in this regard. Either grab a specific window by its edge, change its size and then move it to the desired position, or use Split View to divide the screen into two applications. But when we relate it again to the mentioned Windows, it is quite poor. It is therefore not surprising that the developers came up with their own, relatively effective solution, which is based on what has been working for years with the competition. That's exactly why we're now going to shine a light on 4 popular applications for managing windows in macOS.

magnet

One of the most popular tools for better work with windows in macOS is undoubtedly Magnet. Although it's a paid app, it does what it's supposed to do incredibly well. It goes without saying that overall simplicity, availability of global keyboard shortcuts and relatively extended options are also included. With the help of the Magnet, we can clamp the windows not only on the right or left half, but also on the bottom or top. In addition, it also allows you to divide the screen into thirds or quarters, which comes in handy when you work with a larger monitor.

Thanks to this, Magnet can take care of supporting the user's multitasking. It is also worth noting that the program does not collect any personal data, it is characterized by the already mentioned simplicity and, overall, it can instantly become an inseparable companion of every apple lover. The app is available through the Mac App Store for 199 crowns. Although on the one hand it's sad that the macOS operating system doesn't offer a native solution, it's good to know that once you've paid, Magnet will stay with you forever. And we can confirm from our own experience that this investment pays off in the end.

Rectangle

If you don't want to spend money on Magnet, then you don't have to - there is a free alternative that works practically exactly the same. In this case, we are referring to the Rectangle application. As we mentioned earlier, this software is completely free and is even distributed under an open source license, which makes its Source Code. Even this software can cope with pinning windows to edges, dividing the screen into up to four parts and a number of other activities. Of course, there are also keyboard shortcuts for faster work, which are also more or less the same, at least similar, as in the Magnet application.

If you also like the Rectangle software, you can switch to the Rectangle Pro version, which offers a number of interesting advantages for around 244 crowns. In this case, you will get even faster snapping of windows to the edges of the screen, the possibility of creating your own keyboard shortcuts and even your own layout, and a number of other advantages.

Better Snap Tool

The last application to mention here is BetterSnapTool. The program basically works exactly the same as the mentioned applications, but it also brings rather nice animations. Instead of keyboard shortcuts, it primarily relies on the movement of the mouse or the cursor. But that doesn't mean you can't take shortcuts in this case. With its processing, appearance and mentioned animations, the BetterSnapTool app strongly resembles the window management system that you may know from the competing Windows operating system.

But this software is paid and you will have to prepare 79 crowns for it. However, as we have already mentioned for example with the Magnet application, this is an investment that will make working with your Mac noticeably more pleasant, and at the same time it can also support overall productivity. If you also connect it with the use of larger external monitors, then an application of this type is literally an indispensable partner.
