Would you like to learn at least basic knowledge of English or another language, but don't know how? Although there are people among us for whom a little study and conversation with foreigners is enough to understand, there are also those who would be motivated to learn by a somewhat more entertaining form. Nowadays, you can use a computer, mobile phone or tablet to study, and the App Store also has many programs with which you can make progress in the language with a little effort. We will focus on applications that will help you not only with English, but also with most other advanced languages.

Duolingo

Probably the most downloaded application for learning foreign languages with a game is Duolingo. After creating an account, you choose the language you want to learn, set a daily goal and then just practice by writing, speaking or listening. It supports more than 35 languages and, of course, Czech is not missing among them. However, if you want to practice a language other than English, you're basically out of luck. Of course, it is possible to choose French, German or Italian as the target language, but your practice or main language must always be English - for example, you cannot practice from Czech to French. If you still lack motivation, you can compete with friends in Duolingo, if you are annoyed by ads, try Duolingo Plus, which, in addition to hiding them, unlocks the ability to download lessons for offline play and other great gadgets.

mondly

The developers of Mondly focused more on quantity, but not at the expense of quality. You will find a total of 33 languages in the database, from which you can choose the one you want to learn after starting it. Every day you are tasked with completing a certain lesson. Mondly mainly tries to teach you to converse, but also to listen, write and use grammar correctly. The application is dressed in a nice jacket, in which you can clearly monitor your progress. If the basic functions are not enough for you, it is necessary for you to activate a monthly or annual subscription.

LinGo Play

If the above-mentioned programs do not quite suit you and you would prefer to learn in a slightly different way, then you should focus on LinGo Play. Again, there are over 30 languages to choose from, and you have to progress from basic to advanced topics to learn any of them. But the software also enables learning using flashcards - this method is not only fun, but also beneficial for refining knowledge. For more advanced lessons, you'll need to turn on a subscription, but personally, I think the free version is more than enough for basic use.

Quizlet

Of the tools mentioned in the article, Quizlet is the most customizable. You are taught the material using flashcards, and in addition to being able to practice from the many lists created by students or teachers, it is even possible to create your own lists. You can use this both for foreign languages and for other subjects. Quizlet can test you with speed tests, writing down correct answers, or even closed-ended questions. A huge benefit is that the application remembers which part of the vocabulary you didn't have trouble with in the given topic, and which you should rather work on. So they try to practice you exactly in words or sentences that you don't quite like. If you don't want to watch ads, would like to learn without an Internet connection and would like to use the option of uploading picture cards, count on a one-time purchase - but it certainly won't break the bank.
