Towards the end of last year, Apple introduced the revolutionary MacBook Pro with brand new Apple Silicon chips. This laptop has received an excellent redesign, when it comes in 14″ and 16″ variants with a thicker body, more connectors and significantly higher performance, which is provided by the M1 Pro or M1 Max chips. Although this model is considered successful and many an apple grower has already taken their breath away with its capabilities, we still come across various imperfections with it. So let's take a look at the most common M1 Pro/Max MacBook Pro problems and how to solve them.

Problems with operating memory

RAM problems are never pleasant. When they appear, they can cause, for example, the loss of processed data by terminating some applications, which, in short, no one cares about. MacBook Pro (2021) is basically available with 16GB of operating memory, which can be increased to up to 64GB. But even that is not enough. This is because some users are complaining about a problem known as Memory Leak, when the macOS system continues to allocate operating memory, although it no longer has any left, while "forgetting" to release the one it can do without. Apple users themselves then complain about rather strange situations, when, for example, even an ordinary Control Center process takes up over 25 GB of memory.

Although the problem is extremely annoying and can make you feel sick at work, it can be solved relatively easily. If problems are imminent, just open the native Activity Monitor, switch to the Memory category at the top and find which process is taking up the most memory. All you have to do is mark it, click on the cross icon at the top and confirm your choice with the (Exit/Force exit) button.

Stuck scrolling

One of the biggest innovations of the 14″ and 16″ MacBooks is definitely the use of the so-called Liquid Retina XDR display. The screen is based on Mini LED technology and offers a variable refresh rate of up to 120 Hz, thanks to which the laptop offers the perfect enjoyment of viewing the display without any hiccups. Apple users can thus have a significantly more vivid image and enjoy more natural animations. Unfortunately, this is not the case for everyone. Some users report problems related to the display when scrolling on the web or in other applications, when the image is unfortunately choppy or stuck.

The good news is that this is not a hardware error, so there is no reason to panic. At the same time, this problem appeared especially among so-called early adopters, i.e. those who start using a new product or technology as soon as possible. According to available information, a software bug is behind the problem. Since the refresh rate is variable, it will most likely "forget" to switch to 120 Hz when scrolling, which will result in the aforementioned problem. However, everything should be resolved by updating macOS to version 12.2. So go to System Preferences > Software Update.

The cutout is the source of the problems

When Apple introduced the redesigned MacBook Pro (2021), it literally blew people away with its performance. Unfortunately, not all that glitters is gold, because at the same time, he surprised many (unpleasantly) by adding an upper cutout in which the Full HD camera is hidden. But what to do if the cutout really bothers you? This imperfection can be addressed through a third-party application called TopNotch. This creates a classic frame above the display, thanks to which the notch practically disappears.

However, it does not end there. At the same time, the viewport is responsible for part of the otherwise free space, in which action offers for the currently running application or icons from the menu bar would be displayed. In this direction, the Bartender 4 application can be helpful, with the help of which you can adjust the mentioned menu bar to your liking. The app gives you practically freedom and it's up to you which method you choose.

Play HDR videos on YouTube

A large number of users have been complaining about problems playing HDR videos from YouTube over the past few months. In this case, they encounter kernel crashes, which apparently only affects users of MacBook Pro (2021) with 16GB of operating memory. At the same time, the problem is typical only for the Safari browser - Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome do not report any problems. The solution appears to be to update to the current version of macOS via System Preferences > Software Update, but if problems persist, it is recommended to contact support.

Slow charging

Apple has finally heard the pleas of Apple users and decided to return to the extremely popular method of charging. Of course, we are talking about MagSafe technology, where the cable is automatically attached to the connector using magnets and initializes the power itself. At the same time, the possibility of charging through the USB-C port has not disappeared. Despite this, the second option is not recommended for a relatively simple reason. While the MacBook Pro (2021) can be powered up to 140W, most third-party adapters are capped at 100W.

For this reason, it is so noticeable that charging can be a bit slower. If speed is a priority for you, then you should definitely go for the official faster adapter. A laptop with a 14″ display is basically available with a 67W adapter, while if you pay an extra 600 crowns, you get a piece with 96W power.

Memory Card Reader

As the very last one, we can mention here another important novelty of the new "Proček", which will be appreciated especially by photographers and video makers. This time we are referring to the SD card reader, which disappeared from Apple laptops in 2016. At the same time, for professionals, this is one of the most important connectors, for which they had to rely on various adapters and hubs. Various problems can then appear with this part as well. Fortunately, Apple has summarized all of them at this site about the memory card slot.
