Last year, Apple significantly improved its CarPlay service by allowing navigation service providers to operate on the platform. In addition to Apple Maps, users can also drive in their cars according to competing navigation software, such as Google Maps or Waze. Now another big player in the car navigation software market is joining this group – TomTom.

TomTom has completely redesigned its TomTom Go Navigation iOS application and, in addition to completely new functions, it now also supports content mirroring via the Apple CarPlay protocol. One of the biggest attractions is the support of offline map sources, which is not possible in the case of Apple Maps, Google Maps or Waze.

In addition, the new version of the application has an improved lane guidance system, the ability to download individual maps and thus avoid using data, and several other details that improve user comfort. The iOS version of the application also offers synchronization with a full-fledged TomTom navigation system, which, for example, synchronizes favorite places. The offline functionality of the map documents uses small weekly updates, which reflect changes in the roads.

TomTom GO Navigation 2.0 has been available since the beginning of June and the app is available for free, offering specific purchases that extend the functionality of the basic package. CarPlay functionality is dependent on the presence of the 2.0 update, without which TomTom GO will not work in your CarPlay-equipped car.
