How to teach Siri to pronounce contact names correctly

If you are at least an occasional user of the Siri voice assistant, you have most certainly tried to dial someone from your contacts using it. Unfortunately, as Siri does not yet speak Czech, she also cannot pronounce Czech words correctly. In most cases, a Czech word usually becomes a "garbage" of a Czech and English word. To put this into perspective, I'll give you a simple example. You have a girlfriend or boyfriend saved under the nickname "Honey" on your phone. So you want to dial this contact and say to Siri: "Call Sweetie." Siri, if she understands you, will give a rather tacky response "Calling Zlatiška." This is just one example and I bet you've seen more. Therefore, in today's article, we will show you how to teach Siri to pronounce names correctly.

How to change the pronunciation of names

  • The first step consists in activation alone Crab. We will do so either by speaking out "Hey Siri!" or we use button, which causes it
  • We tell Siri the command "Change pronunciation of Sweetie."
  • Siri will ask what the word Sweetheart should be pronounce
  • Česky we will say Sweetie (as if we were calling our partner)
  • Siri evaluates the word and offers it several options, how the word can be pronounced (we can listen to each variant using the play icon)
  • If one of the offered options suits you, just choose it Select
  • Siri will then confirm the new pronunciation with a sentence "Great, I'll pronounce it Sweetie from now on."
  • If you are not satisfied with the options, just press the button Tell Siri again and again, more clearly to say Sweetheart
  • You can repeat this until you are satisfied with the pronunciation of a certain word

It's important to be very patient with Siri at times. As I mentioned above, Siri does not speak Czech, so some Czech words can be a problem for her. However, it has never happened to me that I failed to change the pronunciation to at least a little similar to the Czech one.
