Already tomorrow, the traditional September keynote awaits us, during which Apple will reveal the new generation iPhone 13, AirPods 3 and Apple Watch Series 7. It is the apple watch that should offer a rather interesting change in the form of a brand new design. Apple is expected to want to slightly unify the appearance of its products - this is confirmed, for example, by the iPad Pro/Air (4th generation), the iPhone 12 and the 24″ iMac with sharp edges. The exact same change awaits this year's Apple Watch. In addition, they boast a larger display (case), where we will see a 1mm increase. But there is a catch.

Apple Watch Series 7 news

Before we look at the problem itself, let's talk about the expected changes. As mentioned above, the new design is undoubtedly getting the most attention. Since the Apple Watch Series 4, the Cupertino giant has been betting on an identical look, which is simply about time to change. At the same time, this is a great opportunity to unify the appearance of Apple devices a little more. After all, the expected 14″ and 16″ MacBook Pro, which will probably be released at the end of this autumn, will most likely see something similar. With it, Apple is also going to bet on a newer and significantly more angular design.

Another interesting change will be significantly longer battery life. According to earlier information, Apple managed to reduce the size of the S7 chip, which leaves more free space in the body of the watch. It is precisely this that Apple should fill with the battery itself and thus offer "Watchky" apple owners with slightly longer endurance. The apple company is often criticized by fans of competing models precisely for the mentioned durability.

Anyway, now we're getting to the main point that apple growers are expressing their concerns about. Already at the beginning, we hinted that this year's generation will also boast a larger case thanks to its newer design. We also encountered something similar in the case of the Apple Watch Series 4, which also increased the case sizes, namely from the original 38 and 42 mm to 40 and 44 mm. These sizes then stick to this day and you can find them in the case of last year's Apple Watch Series 6. Anyway, this year Apple is planning a change - another increase, but this time "only" by 1 mm. Therefore, a rather interesting question arises - will the older straps be compatible with the expected Apple Watch?

Will the new watch cope with older straps?

If we look back at history, specifically at the change in size in the case of the aforementioned Apple Watch Series 4, we probably have nothing to worry about. Back then, the straps were fully compatible and everything worked without the slightest problem. For example, if you owned a 3mm Apple Watch Series 42 and subsequently upgraded to a 4mm Series 40, you could safely use your older bands. At first, it was expected that the same would be the case with this year's generation.

However, news gradually began to spread, according to which this may not be the case. Some sources say that Apple is preparing for a special change, due to which the Apple Watch Series 7 will not be able to work with older straps. It is not clear, however, whether the new design will be to blame, or whether it is a purpose on the part of the Cupertino giant. At the same time, there were also opinions according to which the straps will be compatible, but they will look really strange in a more angular body.

It is not for nothing that it is also said that everything is about money. This could also be the case when Apple is primarily concerned with greater profit. If some Apple users who already have their collection of straps, for example, switch to the Apple Watch Series 7, they will have to buy them again. For this reason, it makes relative sense to remove compatibility with older straps, although it is not exactly welcoming news.

The truth will soon be revealed

Fortunately, the current confusion about backwards compatibility will not last long. So, although Apple has a high probability of more serious complications on the production side of the new Apple Watch series, it is still expected to present it alongside the new iPhone 13. After all, we already mentioned this at the very beginning of this article. Previously, there was information about the possible postponement of the unveiling itself until October, but more respected sources stood for the second option - i.e. the presentation of the Apple Watch Series 7 traditionally in September with possible problems with deliveries, or a longer waiting period. If this possibility is confirmed, then on Tuesday, September 14, we will see all the changes to the expected watches. Of course, we will immediately inform you about all the news from the aforementioned keynote via articles.
