A few weeks ago, at this year's second (and at the same time last) conference from Apple, we saw the presentation of the new MacBook Pros - namely the 14″ and 16″ models. We've covered more than enough of these new machines for the pros at our magazine and brought you a few articles to help you learn all you need to know about them. Since these MacBooks came with a brand new design that is more angular and sharper than the iPhones and iPads, we can expect the future MacBook Air to come with a similar design - just offer more colors, just like the 24″ iMac with a chip M1.

We also covered the future MacBook Air (2022) in several articles in our magazine. Several reports, predictions and leaks have already appeared, thanks to which the appearance and characteristics of the next Air are gradually being revealed. As mentioned above, it is practically certain that the future MacBook Air will be available in several colors for users to choose from. It can then be logically concluded that we will see the introduction of the M2 chip, which will be part of this future device. However, reports also began to gradually appear that the body of the future MacBook Air should no longer be gradually tapering, but the same thickness along its entire length - just like the MacBook Pro.

The tapered body has been iconic for the MacBook Air since its introduction in 2008. That's when Steve Jobs took the machine out of its mailing envelope and surprised the world. It is true that recently the news leaks are not as accurate as they were a few years ago, anyway, if a news starts appearing really often, then it can be assumed that it really will. And this is exactly the case with the redesigned chassis of the future MacBook Air, which should have the same thickness along its entire length (and width). It's true that until now, thanks to the shape of the body, it was easy to distinguish the MacBook Air from the Pro at first glance. The resolution of the device is still important, and if Apple keeps its hands off the narrowing chassis, it's clear that new colors will come with which we will recognize the Air.

Since the tapered chassis is literally iconic for the MacBook Air, I wondered if it really would be a MacBook Air - and I have several reasons for this. For the first reason, we have to go back a few years, when Apple introduced the 12″ MacBook. This laptop from Apple, which had no adjective, was the same body thickness in all places, similar to what the future MacBook Air (2022) should have - that's the first thing. The second reason is that Apple has recently been using the Air designation mainly for its accessories – AirPods and AirTag. Out of habit, Air is used precisely with MacBooks and iPads.

If we look at the product line of the iPhone or iMac, then you would look for the Air designation here in vain. In the case of newer iPhones, only classic and Pro models are available, and the same is (was) the case with the iMac. So from this point of view, it would definitely make sense if Apple finally, once and for all, completely unifies the names of its devices so that they are the same across all product families. So if Apple introduced the future MacBook Air without the Air attribute, we would be a little closer to the overall unification. The last device (not an accessory) with the word Air in the name would be the iPad Air, which could also be renamed in the future. And the work would be done.

The omission of the word Air from the name of the upcoming MacBook (Air) would definitely make sense from a certain point of view. Primarily, we might forever remember the MacBook Air as a device with a tapered chassis that is, simply and simply, extremely iconic. At the same time, if this upcoming device were to be named MacBook without the attribute Air, we would be a little closer to unifying the names of all Apple products. It would also make sense from the point of view that the new 24″ iMac with M1, which is available in several colors, also does not have Air in its name. If the iPad were to go in the same direction, the word Air would suddenly only be used by accessories that are wireless, which makes the most sense - air is Czech for air. What is your opinion on this topic? Will the future and expected MacBook Air (2022) really bear the name MacBook Air, or will the word Air be omitted and will we see the resurrection of the MacBook? Let us know in the comments.
