From time to time, a promising game from Czech or Slovak developers appears on Steam. After more than four years of development, this is the dark fantasy action game Urtuk: the Desolation. Behind the project is the developer David Kaleta, who has been raising his gaming offspring for over a year as part of early access. The game has received very positive reviews from players on Steam so far, and it seems to be more than well deserved.

The game takes place in an original fantasy world that is not inhabited by classic creatures such as elves, trappers or dragons. To the wizards in this game, the world revealed its history through the bones of powerful giants who once warred with the human race. But the war is a thing of the ancient past and the giants have disappeared from the face of the world. However, using magical processes, magicians are able to extract a substance from their bones that could cure a number of diseases and perhaps even bring a cure for aging. Unfortunately, in some cases it exposes those who eat it to negative effects and mutations that end in certain death. One such guinea pig is the titular Urtuk, who must go out into the world and find a solution to his problem before he succumbs to it.

Urtuk: the Desolation is a mix of turn-based strategy and role-playing. The developer places great emphasis on the struggle for survival. As the game progresses, you build your own group of fighters. They then fight enemies on game fields made up of hexagons. It is important to think tactically and use not only the abilities of your own units, but also the game environment. You can throw enemies into abysses or impale them on spikes. From their bodies, you then extract special properties that will help you in further battles. All this in hand-drawn graphics. Well, don't say, don't you want to play this news right away?
