The Total War strategy series is certainly well known to all fans of the genre. The developers from Creative Assembly took us on an adventurous journey through time over the course of two decades, from ancient Japan to Napoleonic Europe. The series did not avoid a fantasy setting in the world of the iconic Warhammer. But when I hear its name, I remember the first part taking place in ancient Rome. I registered that one back in the day and now we can all play it in the remastered version that arrived in digital game stores today.

Total War: Rome Remastered brings the seventeen-year-old game into the video game presence. At first glance, you will notice the modified graphics. You can now conquer Rome in 4K resolution and on ultra-wide screens. The building models have received a complete overhaul, while the unit models have been slightly tweaked by the developers and converted to higher resolutions. Another graphic novelty is a greater representation of various effects during battle tumults. Here the game benefits from recent years of technological development, particle or atmospheric effects were simply not feasible at the time of the original.

The gameplay itself has also seen changes. Of course, the solid foundation of a combination of real-time battles and turn-based tactics remains, but the developers add elements as a superstructure that we expect from today's modern strategies. These include, for example, a new tactical map that allows you to get an overview of sometimes overwhelming battles, or a more maneuverable camera. Unlike the original game, in the remastered version you will also find twelve new factions and a completely new type of diplomatic agent. Of course, Total War: Rome Remastered also adds two expansions to the base game, Alexander and Barbarian Invasion. And if you've been a longtime fan of the series and own the original game on Steam, you can get the new game at half off until the end of May.
