Long months the promised and expected version Tweetbot for Mac has just arrived in the Mac App Store. Tweetbot 2 mainly brings a new look that matches the design language of OS X Yosemite, and we also got a few new features. The price reduction of the application from 20 to 13 euros is also pleasant. The update is free for existing users.

We've known what Tweetbot 2 for Mac will look like for a while now from the developers, who finally managed to release a major update right before the WWDC developer conference. That they will also succeed with Tweetbot for iOS, how they promised, now not very likely.

The design change is exactly in the style of OS X Yosemite – a flat interface including controls, various shades of gray have been replaced by white or black, and there is also a transparent panel. Tweetbot 2 on Mac has become closer to the design of the operating system and is now much more similar to the iOS version.

We can see the similarity in various buttons and controls, but also, for example, in the profile preview or round profile photos. Overall, Tweetbot 2 is much cleaner and looks more modern.

Otherwise, most of the actions in the new version are done the same or similar as before, and the controls are usually found where you are used to. However, the button for opening the lists in the next window has been moved to the benefit of the cause, it can now be found in the lower left corner, including easier control.

The search field has also undergone a very positive change. In previous versions, searching often made you lose your position in the timeline, however the search box has now moved all the way to the top, so it doesn't get in the way of viewing tweets. On the contrary, for an unknown reason, Tweetbot 2 has lost the panel with retweets. Also missing is the option to display only small previews of attached images.

You will definitely notice a different icon when you install the new version. The developers from Tapbots surprisingly opted for a square version, which is more typical for iOS, but you'll probably get used to it on Mac after a while. What's much more unfortunate is that even the latest Tweetbot on the Mac can't yet display attached tweets, a recently introduced feature on Twitter. However, this should change in the next update.

In short, the new desktop Tweetbot is all about a new design that was already needed. Functionally, you won't find a better equipped Twitter client on Mac, and if we add some smaller smart news to the graphical change, Tweetbot 2 is definitely a good update. At the newly lower price of 13 euros, even those who have hesitated should not hesitate anymore.
