Apple is expanding its cloud capacity portfolio. He launched a new tariff plan for his iCloud storage, which offers the possibility to buy up to 20 TB of free space for less than 540 euros per month (2 crowns). That's double the original top variant.
Before expected keynote that will take place next Wednesday, Apple has quietly launched the highest-ever pricing plan for its cloud service. You can now use up to 2 TB for backing up iOS devices, uploading photos and other content.
The most common reasons why Apple increases the size of its cloud storage are two: firstly, they are what's new in macOS Sierra and on the one hand, it is supposed to be the new iPhone 7.
MacOS Sierra, due out this fall, can upload your Documents folder and desktop contents to iCloud for easy access from any device, and can automatically free up disk space when it's running low. This means that rarely used files, for example, can be automatically saved to iCloud Drive, which can take up a lot of cloud space.
The new iPhone 2 can also lead to the expansion of iCloud up to 7 TB. On the one hand, it should offer 256 GB of storage space in its highest configuration (so far the highest was half the capacity) and at least the iPhone 7 Plus according to the latest reports it will come with dual camera, which will guarantee much better quality images, which will understandably take up more memory space. So a noticeably larger storage expansion would make sense.
Which would only make a little more sense if Apple offered more cloud space already in the base. And if not that, then at least if one gets 5GB for each device connected to his account and not just 5GB per account.
Why?
How about because 5GB is woefully small?
1€ per month for 50GB is fun for everyone, isn't it? So why deal with such nonsense as a free tariff. NOK 27 per month really won't kill anyone, besides, you won't even notice that something is missing from the account..?
Exactly..
I assume that Ondřej will also be one of those who shout every time why the damned Apple didn't put a button to turn off mobile data in the control center again :D
It's harsh, but do I really know people who only use iPhones on wifi? Apart from that, do they only have a brick for sms and calls?
Even without a connection, a large part of the smartphone's functions can be used. From cameras, games, reading, working with documents, etc.
I see that you have already put me in a box. So I don't know what operator you have, but O2 has now canceled the data after the FUP is used up and it costs a lot of money.
Otherwise, 5GB free is simply embarrassing. I have 25GB on DropBox and 15GB on Google Drive, and together I can fit about that. I can imagine backing up to the cloud.
Ok, so basically there could be more, but it still wouldn't be enough for me. Otherwise, I have a FUP of 5GB/month with T-Mobile and since I'm on wifi at work and at home, I won't use it up. I also use Dropbox and Google drive, but I still pay for 200GB on iCloud, because I use each for something different.. Dropbox has the advantage that it is much more connected with other applications, and that's great.
I have FUP 10GB and that's enough for me. Only when I'm saving. I don't have Wi-Fi at work, sometimes I work or study outside its coverage and use a hotspot.
Otherwise, if iCloud was, let's say, 10GB for each device, it would be enough for me. iPhone, iPad, Pro and Mini. It would seem more fair to me from Apple if I take the premium price of their products.
That's how I understand it, if a person is off wifi all day, FUP goes to hell quickly, especially on LTE?, I have the same devices plus A TV at home and at work. And I have a Time Capsuli at home, which is great if you need all the data in one place, unfortunately it doesn't have remote access.. Which would solve everything.
Although I pay for 200 GB myself, I agree that the competition offers far more and better services in this respect. And it annoys people a lot. 5 GB in 2016 for free is simply not enough. If it was for every device, it would be slightly fair.
I'm also paying for 200GB and I'm already 3/4 full, so I'll be switching to 1TB soon. But the fact is that I also started using it on MB instead of Dropbox. It is then easily filled.
I don't care about the price as much as the principle. Why pay for something I can get on Dropbox or Google Drive for free? Apple is just plain greedy.
Because that's enough to back up one device.
So I see 20€ and not 20 USD….
Jasan, that's an advantage for Americans, they have it for $20 and we in the EU for €20?
I think the 200GB should be free. At least to buy a new phone/mac.
20 per month is 240 Euros per year! when using one phone with a small storage for 3 years, is it 720 euros? so that's the amount for which I'll pay extra for the highest possible storage on my phone, and I'll still have it on the disk at home, where I'll back it all up when I arrive. Dropbox is still well used for smaller things. I don't see any reason to spend so much money on anything other than hardware that I keep at home. I guess I need a lesson, thanks
And what is it good for? Why pay for space that is free on many servers today? For photos or movies that are constantly available elsewhere and you can access them via the web in the same way as on any cloud? I guess I'm weird, but I miss the point of such large and additionally paid servers. It only makes sense for operators who collect.
Well, that's probably a bad thing, I only use iCloud to sync devices and 5GB is not enough. 2TB for €20 is ridiculous. I pay for office 365 where I have all of office plus 1TB of data for each of the 5 possible users. It costs me 260 kc per month for the whole family approx. I thought about one TB on iCloud, but it's just too expensive.
