It has long been no longer true that the Apple Watch is an "ordinary smart watch," which is only used to show the time and receive notifications. Apple has taken an interesting path, making this product a health partner, thanks to which it can greatly help apple growers. Therefore, the newest model can handle not only heart rate measurement, but even offers an ECG, can detect a fall and also measures oxygen saturation in the blood. It is the latter function that is now the subject of negotiations by the major American company Masimo, which is suing Apple for stealing patents and their technologies.

An interesting concept depicting the blood sugar measurement of the expected Apple Watch Series 7:

The portal was the first to report on the whole situation Bloomberg. In the United States, Masimo has sued Apple for infringement of five of its patents related to measuring blood oxygenation. After all, the company specializes in this field, as it is specifically dedicated to research and development of non-invasive sensors for monitoring the human body. Apple Watch uses a sensor for the aforementioned blood oxygen saturation measurement, which can detect the given values using light. Moreover, it is not the first time that something like this has happened. Masimo sued Apple back in January 2020 for stealing trade secrets and using their inventions. The process is currently on hold as the patents themselves are examined, which itself takes roughly 15 to 18 months. Apple allegedly even used the company's employees directly to copy technologies.

Masimo is therefore requesting a ban on the importation of the Apple Watch Series 6 into the United States of America. At the same time, he adds that since it is not a medical device, the situation will not even affect key consumers who really need similar technologies. For now, it is not clear how the whole situation will develop further. But with a high probability, they won't even have time to examine the mentioned patents, while there will already be newer models of apple watches on the market, which of course are not the subject of negotiations now.
