Do you enjoy Apple Watch and Apple Watch Ultra? In the case of the first, even with regard to the SE edition, it is actually still the same with a minimum of innovation. At least the Ultras brought an interesting design and some extra features. But is that enough?

This isn't meant to be a criticism of the Apple Watch or the company's approach to the whole wearables issue. Rather, we want to point out the fact that even if there is some competitive offer, it is actually still limited, which is not good. Smart watches have experienced an incredible boom, and the Apple Watch is the best-selling watch in the world, and yet the selection itself is so small.

watchOS, Wear OS, Tizen

You can only use Apple Watch with iPhones. You don't cut corners with Android devices. Just as Apple doesn't give iOS to companies to build their smartphone with it, it doesn't give them watchOS either. So if you want an iOS device you need an iPhone, if you want watchOS you need an Apple Watch. If you want an Apple Watch without an iPhone, you're out of luck. It's good? For Apple for sure. It develops its systems as well as devices that run on this software. He does not have to give or sell anything to anyone. After all, why would he do that. In the 90s, so-called Hackintoshes, i.e. PCs on which you could use macOS, were very widespread. But such a time is already gone and it also turned out to be not quite ideal.

Even Google looked at this strategy. Together with Samsung, he developed Wear OS, i.e. a system that does not communicate with iPhones. Maybe as a ploy to make Apple fans jealous, maybe because he knows that a device with such a system wouldn't be able to compete with the Apple Watch anyway. This system was presented as the right Android alternative with respect to the smartness of the Apple Watch. The expanded Tizen does not provide such options in terms of functions and applications (although it can be paired with iOS). But the problem is that even though a certain revolution could have happened here, somehow it still survives. Samsung has two generations of this watch, Google has one, and the others aren't too keen on this system.

A vision is missing

Other manufacturers are also just overstepping the mark in this regard. Garmin smartwatches are anything but smart in the true sense of the word. Then there is Xiaomi, Huawei and others, but their watches have not gained much popularity. Why would the owner of a Samsung device buy a Huawei watch when he has the best possible solution in the form of a product from his own stable. But there aren't any outright neutral companies that use Wear OS either. Yes, Fossil, yes, TicWatch, but within the units of limited distribution models.

It is clear that Apple will not release watchOS. Unfortunately, we thereby deprive ourselves of the opportunity to see what someone else would come up with with the platform. Apple has a certain idea that clearly ties its hands. Consider what Samsung has done with its One UI superstructure on top of Android, and now what others could do with watchOS and the design of the watch itself. What can Apple come up with after its Ultras? Not much space is offered. There is no room to enlarge, can he make a women's version or change the materials, display quality, add buttons, function options?

Smartphones have also hit their evolutionary ceiling, hence the arrival of flexible devices. When will the Apple Watch and Samsung's Galaxy Watch meet a similar fate? It also has only four models here, which differ only in small details. As a sure way out, Garmin could be presenting its solution with Wear OS. But you don't pair such a watch with iOS. So it looks more like stomping on the spot without a clear vision and goal, and it's only a matter of time how long it will entertain customers. Even the offer of hybrid watches is not extensive.
