Until recently Mozilla claimed, that it will not develop its Firefox Internet browser for the iOS platform. She particularly complained about Apple's restrictions on internet browsers. The biggest problem was the absence of the Nitro JavaScript accelerator, which was only available for Safari, not for third-party applications. They didn't even have the opportunity to use their own engine.

With iOS 8, a lot has changed, and among other things, Nitro is also available for applications outside of Apple's own software. Perhaps that is why Mozilla unofficially announced the development of its own Internet browser for iOS, but it is possible that this is an initiative of the new executive director Chris Beard, who took over the leadership of the company this July.

The information came from an internal conference where the future of Mozilla and its projects was discussed. "We need to be where our users are, so we'll have Firefox for iOS," he tweeted one of Mozilla's executives, apparently quoting Firefox VP Johnathan Nightingale. Firefox is currently available on Android, where, among other things, it offers, for example, the synchronization of bookmarks and other content with the desktop version. This is one of the features that the iOS mobile version could bring to the delight of Firefox users. Mozilla used to offer Firefox Home apps just for bookmarks, but abandoned the project years ago.

Most well-known browsers can already be found in the App Store, Google has its Chrome here, Opera also offers an interesting function of compressing content and reducing the size of transferred data, and iCab is also very popular. Firefox (besides Internet Explorer) is one of the last to be missing, which Mozilla will probably fix within the next year.

Mozilla has not yet officially commented on the topic. Also attached tweet According to Matthew Ruttley, a data science manager at Mozilla, it seems that Firefox for iOS will indeed be.
