Blood, violence and brutal final scenes. This is not the only feature of the intense thresher, which has its roots firmly connected to the first computers and consoles. I believe that even recreational gamers have heard of the Mortal Kombat phenomenon that made it to TV screens. The arrival of this game has been announced for a long time by various game trailers and speculations. Some claimed that the developers at Warner Bros. will go wrong, others didn't get carried away and kept their first verdicts until the very arrival in the App Store. That took place last week, so what is Mortal Kombat X?

I've always been a big fan of fighting games, especially console ones. In addition to Mortal Kombat, I used to watch the Tekken and Street Fighter series a lot. For that reason, I was really looking forward to Mortal Kombat and I have to say that I was impressed when I first started it. After a long time, I saw the potential of my iPhone 6 Plus again, when I saw a brilliantly elaborated graphic on the display.

The game itself remained faithful to its original design, but received several significant improvements that took it to another level. Mortal Kombat combines a classic beater together with a card-based game. Don't be alarmed, it's definitely not a turn-based card game like Hearthstone. On the contrary, fair matches are still the main focus of the game. You will only encounter the card system in the menu environment, where each card represents something different.

There are cards with individual characters, equipment, upgrades and many other tweaks and customizations. Their overview and division is very intuitive and clear. After playing for a while, you will find that you always have a team of three fighters at your disposal, which you can freely combine, improve or buy new characters.

The same number of opponents will come against you in each round, which you must destroy. In each match, you can freely click between characters and use their potential. Of course, each character controls different types of attacks and, above all, special abilities.

The list of characters includes proven qualities such as Sub-Zero, Johnny Cage, Sonya Blade, Scorpion, as well as new and unseen fighters. Anyway, the rule is that the more you use a given character in battles, the faster its experience and upgrades will grow.

The biggest potential stumbling block that the developers could have paid for was the controls. The idea of having four buttons on the screen for movement and another five for attacking scared me a lot. I'm glad that didn't happen and the display is nice and clean. You control each character in a very simple and straightforward way, i.e. a combination of tapping and swiping.

So you attack your opponent just by tapping on them, and when the right moment comes, you just need to swipe to that side with a little help and you'll end the whole combat combo. Defense is also cleverly handled by pressing two fingers at once. Add to that the special attack for which the icon in the lower left is intended. Of course, special attacks and power-ups will increase as you progress.

The developers also thought about long gameplay and fun. You can thus test your fighting skills and experience in more than thirty rounds, with six or more matches waiting for you in each level. At first glance, I thought it wouldn't be hard to finish, but when the first loss came, I was quickly brought back to reality. It will require a bit of thinking and pre-calculation as to which character I will place on the opponent in question.

The menu also outlines that new game modes and various special matches will be added to the game over time. The game also features classic fatality, i.e. final deadly grabs and techniques.

Mortal Kombat X is free, so of course there are in-app purchases with which you can significantly speed up the development of your characters and purchase new ones. On the other hand, it's not a bad idea to make honest money on the characters, because for every match you win, you get a certain amount of gold and other special coins. The game is compatible with all iOS devices, including the iPhone 4. I think that the game will definitely not run as smoothly on these older devices as on the newer ones. If you're a fan of fighting games, it's almost mandatory to at least try Mortal Kombat X and give it a chance.
