In September 2012, MOPET CZ launched a new and important service in the form of a simple application for Android and, of course, also for iOS. An application called Mobito can replace your payment card and simplify your daily payment routine.

MOPET CZ was founded in 2010 by Tomáš Salomon, Viktor Peška, Česká spořitelna, GE Money Bank, Raiffeisenbank, UniCredit Bank and also all mobile operators. The goal of everyone involved in this project is to make Mobit a new payment standard on the market. It is not surprising that this company received a permit to operate from the Czech National Bank in May 2012 and is the only one in the Czech Republic that can boast the status of an electronic money institution.

Mobito mobile

When you start Mobit for the first time, you must first register. During registration, each user chooses only two security elements. A four- to eight-digit PIN that you will enter every time you turn on the application, and a security text that is used to determine your identity when calling the customer line, when unblocking Mobit or retrieving a forgotten password to the payment portal.

The Mobito application is actually your wallet in electronic form. If you need to "top up" it with money, you must either connect Mobito to a payment card or directly to a bank account with Česká spořitelna, GE Money Bank, Raiffeisenbank and UniCredit Bank. I think it's great that the creators of this project also thought of users who don't trust or don't like to use such services, connected directly to their bank account. Two possible solutions are offered for these users. You can recharge Mobito at any time with a one-time card via the charging panel in the Mobito portal or by bank transfer. With a direct connection to money, Mobit will be recharged immediately. It takes two working days if it is a bank transfer. In this case, it is good to have everything thought out in advance, what and when you will buy, so that it does not happen that you need to pay for a purchase in a supermarket, for example, and you do not have a penny in Mobit.

Charging is very useful for youth or students. Parents can thus have an overview of what their offspring buys and how they manage their pocket money. Mobito works as a mobile payment terminal and also offers an overview of payments. Both realized and paid, thanks to this you will have a long-term and detailed overview of your finances.

Mobito pays it

When you set up one of the options to fill Mobito with money, you can shop, pay bills and send money. You have all these features on the home page along with your money status. The first green bar is the money balance. If you click on it, you will be presented with recharge options. Right below it is an option Buy, in which three options are hidden. Enter the Mobito code, which is used for a quick purchase at a distance from the seller. You can now pay, for example, for parking. If the seller offers a Mobito code, just enter it in the window and you can have the product paid for immediately. Top up phone credit, which is simple. You just enter the phone number you want to recharge, the amount and you're done. This feature has one big advantage that you can recharge any number. Pay the merchant is a feature that allows you to pay the merchant directly for services or products in person or remotely. You enter the recipient's number, amount, variable symbol and any text and you are paid.

Another option is the service To pay, to which merchants, sellers or people to whom you have to pay something can send you payment notifications, which you can immediately pay from Mobit. The last function is Send money. You enter to whom, i.e. the recipient's number, the amount you want to send to the person concerned, a variable symbol and any text.

nku History, which provides you with an overview of everything that is happening with your money. Page News it will serve as information about Mobit. For example, you will receive SMS messages when you have charged Mobito and whether it was successful or not. Page My ID it contains, for example, your phone number or a generated code (Mobito number) and the user can use it if he does not want to tell the merchant his phone number.

In section More you will find all settings, help with problems and what I found very useful, a link to places to pay with Mobito. At the time of writing this review, it was 1366 places throughout the Czech Republic and they are constantly increasing. A number of discounts and bargains are also associated with this service.

Bottom Line

I had the opportunity to try Mobito in three situations.

  • I topped up a friend's credit for the first time. Everything went without complications. Within minutes the friend had full credit.
  • In the second situation, I paid for some small items in a store with Mobit. Many stores already offer the option to pay via this service. But hundreds more have no idea about Mobit, which is why it was inconvenient for me to search on the web in which store I can actually pay this way. The solution would be trivial. There would be a sticker on the door of the shop or at the till: Mobito applies here.
  • My last test consisted of sending money from one Mobit to another, without specifying a bank account. I have sent money to my phone several times back and forth between mine and my friend's Mobit and everything has been fine.

I think that Mobito is a very well-started project that has the potential to stay on the Czech market. It will still take some time for its larger expansion, but I think it will be able to win over its users. I started using Mobito and I intend to continue using it. I was surprised how simple and practical it is to have an overview of your income and expenses. So far, I haven't found any major flaws in Mobit, and the design of the application is quite modern. I can recommend it to you with a clear conscience. It is a perfectly tailored application for the needs of small money transactions in the Czech Republic.

According to the reactions in the discussion, it is not entirely clear how it is with the fees around the Mobito payment system. Here is the explanation:

"The online platform on which Mobito operates allows payments not to be burdened by normal bank fees in any way. This makes all payments within Mobito free. When charging Mobit via a payment card, however, there is a charge of CZK 3 + 1,5% of the total amount charged. (e.g. at 500 CZK, the amount with the fee is 510,65 CZK). This entire fee is remitted to the processing bank. This is the same fee as when withdrawing money from a foreign ATM. Mobito does not receive any income from this fee. Mobito receives fees exclusively from merchants for executing a transaction. However, charging from a payment card has its meaning. Thanks to it, an order of magnitude more users have access to Mobit. Without this option, users from non-partner banks would be dependent only on charging by bank transfer."
