A brand new Material Design-inspired version of the YouTube app from the latest Android should be coming to iPhones and iPads soon, but Google has released another, smaller update before that. The official YouTube app on mobile devices will finally play portrait videos in full screen.

Portrait videos are always a topic of discussion. Respectively, there are their staunch opponents who cannot even see them, and this is also due to the fact that, for example, on the web, specifically YouTube, they are then displayed very poorly in the widescreen player.

However, it is easiest to shoot portraits on mobile phones, so more and more such videos are appearing on the Internet. That's why they were now forced to react to it in Google as well, and so even the official YouTube application can now display a wide-screen video in iOS. Until now, black borders were always visible.

If you have the device shot in landscape mode, the edges will appear the same, however, if you rotate the iPhone, you will see the video in full screen, which is definitely a positive step forward, if we take portrait videos at our mercy.

The last update also added the option to have a notification sent to you when a new video appears in the selected channel.
