After completing applications connected to Office 365 for mobile devices, Microsoft is finally shifting its attention to Mac as well. The first swallow of new applications is now Outlook for Mac, the complete office suite with the new Word, Excel and PowerPoint will follow next year.
The new Outlook for Mac is just that showed in the week Chinese website cnBeta. Microsoft keeps its face even on the Apple system, and the applications thus have the same interface that we know from Windows - so now the user gets a complete and identical experience with Outlook on PC, web, Mac and iPad.
At the same time, the user interface in the new Outlook has a more modern look (especially compared to previous versions of applications from Microsoft for Mac, this is a striking difference), there is smoother scrolling and improved behavior when switching between the so-called ribbons. For Office 365 subscribers who can already download the new Outlook for Mac, Microsoft offers push support and an online archive.
At the same time, Microsoft revealed that it is also preparing new versions of the key office applications Word, PowerPoint and Excel, but unlike Outlook, it does not yet have them ready. According to their words, they first focused on applications for mobile devices in Redmond and will only release a public beta version of the new Office for Mac in the first half of next year. The final version should arrive in the second half of 2015. For Office 365 users, updates will be free, for other users Microsoft will offer a certain form of licensing.
I welcome Word and Excel. The current Office 2011 is miserable, just the UI
The problem is that Outlook is the least needed application out of all of Office. I personally have never used it and probably never will
I use Outlook the most, and even mainly at home and not just at work. Why do I need Word, Excel or PowerPoint at home... But emails, assignments, what to do when, notes, etc. There is nothing so comprehensive anywhere else. And to release twenty separate other programs because of that... I don't want to thank you
I never cease to be fascinated by people who do braces between - I don't use it = it's the least necessary for everyone. Nevermind. Microsoft, on the other hand, knows very well that outlook as a groupware client is absolutely crucial for the corporate sector, because it is tied to other services – exchange. The 2011 one was tragic, especially when you know the window client from the 2013 version. That is, it is definitely a step in the right direction, in terms of design, the application is somewhere completely different from the previous one, you can also see much faster work with exchange and outlook accounts, however, the functionality behind the window client he is still fundamentally behind his brother. Tragic work with tasks, it still can't even display the task panel next to the message preview, there are no quick actions, etc., etc. The mail part itself has gained some functionality, the others are only redesigned. But good for that. The application is now much more pleasant. What else I miss, and this already concerns the ability of the application to work in the OS X system, is zoom! – instead of the classic zoom, you enlarge the font :( and the application does not do Mack's fool screen mod. Which is also a mistake.
I agree Outlook is absolutely key, I also can't imagine life without it.
The new version is a mockery for the corporate user. In addition to Auto Archiving on the Server, which must be activated by the server administrator, which is very difficult to agree on within the corporation, it still does not provide the possibility of local Auto Archiving. Outlook has lost the possibility of scripting, the contacts do not work, and compared to the 2011 version, it does not bring new functions. The only change is the appearance, which after four years and the need to activate a subscription is pretty pathetic.
I am also disappointed with the functionality and hope it will be further developed. Some things have improved - as I write, I register really faster responses from the exchange server to office 365 and when working with outlook.com, some minor functionality has been added to the postman (flagging and deleting an e-mail in the message overview), it seems that it finally fits color categories in the calendar when synchronizing with windows outlook, etc. but otherwise yes, it is very much behind what outlook can do in office 2013 on windows. :(
Unfortunately/By God, not all companies go to Exchange, and then Outlook is a big deal, right? :)
For the big parade. I don't have Exchange, and I can't imagine it without Outlook. Then there is nothing else as comprehensive, so great
Does he already know Gmail properly? Can iCal servers properly, including updates?
I don't want a flame, I just want to clarify whether I have outdated information and possibly update it. Yes, I could use google, but if it's not my thing, I'd rather ask so I'm not a fool next time :)
Who has it installed - does it work with system contacts yet?
The new Outlook for Mac is available to Office 365 commercial customers

I hope it will work even without having to buy Office 365...
I hate Microsoft more and more. I have everything from Apple at home. Then Windows in the company. With a heavy load of office packages, when all kinds of errors pop up, it is not possible to plan meetings, the .ost archive is on such a crazy algorithm that it destroys outlook... Patches after patches, hotfixes... well, just idiocy.
And their new website in the style of windows 8?... At first glance, only the fonts are a bit sloppy. Friendliness nowhere. On commerce.microsoft.com, after 10 minutes, I won't find out how much money I have in my account....Damn...that should be the main info on the first page, huh?!!! Problems with logging out, etc. Well, Microsoft continues to screw me up.
Kind of embarrassing. What else can I say to you? This folklore is slandered by young people, who in reality only hear it from a friend. Scheduling meetings... Other than through Outlook? No thanks. Everyone who uses it knows that it works reliably and without problems. Archiving and errors... Don't take that seriously... Even ten years ago, it wouldn't have been considered a joke. If you're having trouble with something, it's an IT dilettante in a company that doesn't know how to set up a server. You can wear whatever you want to the World Cup, but this is really embarrassing.
I wonder if it can already work with SharePoint. MS promised support until version 2011, but nothing. At the very least, the integration of a shared calendar would do a lot of good.
So I'll answer myself :) Downloaded, installed, activated and was not surprised. Despite its promises to add SharePoint support to Office 2011, Microsoft is focusing on this in version 2015. You simply cannot add a shared calendar from SP :(
It is not possible to set up an account from Keria via Exchange as in version 2011. If I use imap, I don't have the calendar from Keria at my disposal :-(
I can use Keria without any problems even with the calendar :-)
interesting discussion, I'm worried if I should update my outlook :-(
