The Verge on the sale of the Microsoft tablet at the Stamples chain:

Microsoft plans to reduce the price of its Surface RT tablets. Sources familiar with plans for Microsoft Surface The Verge They revealed that prices could drop as early as next week, with each model being $150 cheaper. Microsoft's move to cut prices for its Surface RT tablet comes after weak sales in an effort to sell the device elsewhere at a lower price. The software maker recently launched its education program, selling the Surface RT to schools for $199, and has been clearing inventory of its devices at the recent Tech-Ed and Worldwide Partner conferences.

Although there is no significant reduction in prices globally, it certainly does not mean anything positive. Apparently, Office on the tablet doesn't play as big a role as Microsoft thought, and it's possible that it will be sold out like RIM's PlayBook or HP's TouchPad.
