It has been speculated about for a long time, but in just a few months the Microsoft Office suite for iPad, iPhone and Android will become a reality. Although Microsoft is more or less silent about its new mobile applications, word has leaked out that Word, Excel and PowerPoint for iOS and Android will arrive in early 2013.
Office Mobile will be available for free and users will be able to view their Office documents anywhere on their mobile devices. Like SkyDrive or OneNote, Office Mobile will require a Microsoft account. With it, every user will have access to basic document viewing, while Word, PowerPoint and Excel will be supported.
If users want to edit their documents in iOS or Android, they will have to pay for Office 365, which can be done directly in the application. However, Mobile Office should only offer basic editing, i.e. nothing that should come close to the classic version of the package that we know from computers.
According to the server The Verge Office Mobile will be released first for iOS, at the end of February or beginning of March next year, followed by the Android version in May.
A Microsoft spokesperson only commented on the matter by confirming that Office will work on Windows Phone, iOS and Android.
Another cloud, another money squeezer, another reason to avoid Offices...
Well, in Lion it is my most used software. But this, I admit, is total bullshit :)
I don't know if Mrkvosoft thinks I'm going to waste money - ANNUALLY! – for occasionally editing something on my iPad in a significantly reduced office package... I praise my decision to buy QuickOffice Pro HD, where the possibility of tracking changes in Word documents has also been added.
