There is not a day when the media does not talk about TikTok - even in today's IT summary we will focus on it as part of the first news. In the second news, we will focus on the error that appeared in Microsoft Office, in the penultimate news, we will look at the upcoming functions for applications from Google, and in the last news, we will inform you about the possible arrival of a folding phone from Google. So let's get straight to the point.

Microsoft is interested in buying all of TikTok

Over the past few days, things have been really blessed as far as TikTok is concerned. This whole case was started a few weeks ago by the banning of the TikTok application in India. The government here decided to ban TikTok for allegedly collecting sensitive data and spying on users. After this ban, the government of the United States of America also began to resort to the same step, and of course Donald Trump was the most involved in the whole case. He initially stated that he was going to ban TikTok for real, for the same reasons as the government of India. Then Microsoft stepped in, announcing that it would like to buy part of the TikTok app from ByteDance, the company that runs the app. Specifically, Microsoft was interested in a portion of TikTok in the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. After Microsoft announced this information, Donald Trump decided to back down slightly.

He said that if Microsoft manages to agree on a buyout with ByteDance by September 15, and if after the possible buyout it implements certain security procedures to eliminate potential data collection and spying on users, then TikTok will not be banned in the United States. Initially, it was even speculated that Apple should be interested in TikTok, but this was quickly disproved, so Microsoft is practically the only company that is interested in buying it. Microsoft has said it will not inform the public in any way about how the buyout negotiations are proceeding. The only information Microsoft will publish is on September 15, when it will say whether it has agreed on the buyout or not. However, Trump is trying to push Microsoft to possibly buy all of TikTok from ByteDance and not just a part of it. We will see how this whole case turns out, and whether TikTok will really fall under the wings of a new company in a month and a few days.

A bug in Microsoft Office can cause your device to be hacked

If you are one of the users who prefer the Microsoft Office package instead of the native iWork office package, then get smarter. It turned out that there was a serious security flaw in Microsoft Office until a recent update. A potential attacker could use the macros found in Microsoft Office to run any macro in the background without the user's knowledge, with which he was then able to run a classic command line. Through it, he could already perform any administrative actions – from opening the Calculator application (see video below) to erasing the disk.

A bug in Microsoft Office is constantly exploited within the Windows operating system, but the occurrence of such a bug in macOS is rare. But the good news is that this bug has been fixed with the arrival of macOS 10.15.3 Catalina. But let's face it, many users don't update their applications and systems regularly, so countless of them can still get infected. All you have to do to get infected is to download and run the infected file with the extension .slk, which comes from the Microsoft Office suite. If you want to prevent infection, update your system regularly (System Preferences -> Software Update) and of course also all your applications.

Here's how to exploit the bug:

Google is preparing new features that will appear in iOS

Today, Google announced new features it plans to add in one of its future iOS updates. In a statement, Google says for the first time that it has finally made the new dynamic Gmail available to all iOS users, thanks to which they get a much better and more pleasant experience using the application. As for the plans that Google is preparing, we can mention new functions in Documents, Sheets and Slides for mobile devices. Users should expect a redesigned user interface for commenting and much more. Furthermore, we will finally see support for Microsoft Office formats, which can also be opened and edited on mobile devices without any problems. New controls are then coming to Slides, and finally, Google mentioned that it is (finally) preparing a dark mode for most of its apps, a Dark Mode if you will, which will reduce battery consumption when using Google apps.

Google has leaked a document about an upcoming folding device

We will remain with Google even within the scope of this paragraph. Today, this company leaked a special internal document in which there are plans for the near future. One of the plans that Google has is to introduce a new foldable Pixel. As part of an internal document, Google's folding phone was codenamed Passport, so it can be assumed that it will be a device similar to the Samsung Galaxy Fold. Google does not hide the development of its folding phone in any way, it even confirmed last year that it is trying to perfect the technologies it could use for its folding Pixel. Specifically, we could expect a foldable Pixel sometime in 2021. That would leave only Apple, which has not yet presented its flexible phone – Samsung came up with the aforementioned Fold, Huawei with the Mate X and Google would have its own Pixel. However, it seems that Apple is not involved in the development of a flexible phone in any way, and who knows if it is even interested in it.
