If you are a series fan, then surely you must keep some kind of record of which episodes of which show you have already seen and which ones you haven't. That is, assuming you follow more of them. So far I've been using the iTV Shows app for this purpose, which is now out in version 2.0.

This is a fairly significant update, which has perhaps only one negative information for users - they have to pay for it again. On the other hand, the developers offer us a brand new coat, a unified application for iPhone and iPad, and among other functions, they do not force us to switch to the new version at all. The original iTV Shows app will continue to work.

The second version of iTV Shows works on the same principles as its predecessor, however, it brings a new, possibly more modern interface and other news. The most notable one is that there is already only one version of the app that works on both iPhone and iPad. So for 2,39 euros (about 60 crowns) you get an application for two devices between which all data is synchronized, which is what iCloud is used for. As a result, the data is always up-to-date in both devices, and you don't have to worry about whether you checked off this part on your iPhone or iPad.

If you've used the original iTV Shows before, then the transition to version 2.0 will be virtually painless. The developers make it possible to easily import all data into the new version. For those who are just getting started with the app, they will have to choose their favorite series at the beginning. iTV Shows 2 cooperates with TVRage.com and theTVDB.com databases, in which you should have no problem finding all foreign series, and even some Czech ones (for example Kriminálka Anděl).

Once the selected series are loaded, in the first panel iTV Shows are clearly sorted according to the broadcast date of the next episode. It is clearly divided which series is being broadcast this week, which is being broadcast next week, which will be broadcast for a longer period of time, and possibly also which is waiting for a continuation announcement or has been discontinued. For each recording, it is also written how long exactly it will be broadcast.

By clicking on any part, you will get to a list of all the episodes that were broadcast for the given series. With the red tab on the right side, you can mark various episodes as watched and you can also expand each one again to learn more detailed information about the selected episode (title, series and episode number, date), or watch a short preview. There is also a link to iTunes and the possibility of sharing on Facebook, Twitter or via e-mail.

However, the second panel is the most important to me It Watch. This is where all the episodes of my series that have aired are listed, so I have an overview of the ones I haven't seen yet. For each series, there is a number with the number of episodes not yet watched and an icon to tick off if you have already seen the new (or the latest that you haven't seen) episode. The list always shows the number of the series and the episode that is waiting for you, so you have an immediate overview of everything.

If these overviews and schedules were not enough for you, iTV Shows 2 also offers a calendar, but only on the iPhone. This is the same as the basic iOS calendar – a monthly view and series written below (including episode, time and station) that are broadcast on a given day.

For serial enthusiasts, the Genius function, which copies the function of the same name from iTunes, may be of interest. iTV Shows 2 will offer you new series through Genius that you might like. And I have to admit that I have already found an interesting piece there that caught my attention several times.

iTV Shows is also able to highlight currently aired episodes, but this is not so useful in our area for foreign series, because especially in America, new episodes usually run in the middle of the night.

Overall, iTV Shows 2 is a very capable manager of your serial life, with which you will not miss an episode. There are also alternative solutions such as various web services, which you will not find in iTV Shows 2, but it is about the preferences of each viewer. If you own an iPhone or iPad, then I recommend iTV Shows 2.
