The first generation AirPods were introduced on September 7, 2016 and started the very successful era of TWS headphones. However, Apple was not satisfied with just them and HomePods in the area of audio, but in December 2020 also introduced AirPods Max. However, these headphones did not gain such popularity, and their high price was also to blame. Can we even wait for their second generation?

AirPods Max have an Apple H1 chip in each earcup, which is also found in the second and third generation AirPods and the first generation AirPods Pro. The latter already has an H2 chip, so it clearly follows from the logic of the matter that if Apple introduces new Maxes at the end of next year, they will have the same chip. But what next? Of course, it would be advisable to remove Lightning for charging headphones, because from 2024 small electronics sold in the EU will have to be charged via USB-C. How the headphones would be charged through MagSafe is a question. In theory, a new case could come in place of the current "bra", which would then transfer the energy to the headphones.

Does the price/performance ratio stand up?

With regard to the new sense of touch control, it can also be assumed that the crown will be removed, which makes the product unnecessarily expensive. From the 2nd generation AirPods Pro model, the new Max should also have an adaptive bandwidth mode, which uses the advantages of the H2 chip. It dampens intense loud sounds (sirens, power tools, etc.) so you can fully perceive what's going on around you. In short, it can be said that the new AirPods Max 2nd generation would be enlarged AirPods Pro 2nd generation, which can also be applied to a certain extent to the predecessor, which was the technical prototype of the AirPods Pro. So will there be anything extra at all?

First of all, it's the crayons. As the only AirPods, Maxy has the option of choosing something other than just white. But the big question is the quality of music transmission. Apple is said to be working on a better Bluetooth codec, which should be able to get a little more out of lossless music listening within Apple Music, although if the sound is still being converted, there can be no question of lossless listening. However, connecting an iPhone (or Mac) to the headphones via USB-C could provide a better experience.

Either way, it's very likely that if we get new Maxes, Apple will kill them anyway with the price. Most will therefore reach for better and cheaper solutions from third-party manufacturers, even at the cost of not having the proper "Apple enjoyment" of combining products from multiple manufacturers. The current AirPods Max still cost a damn high CZK 15 in the Apple Online Store.
