In the world of smartphones, there has been talk for a long time about so-called reverse charging, which is used by the phone itself, for example, to power accessories. A number of sources have been claiming for a long time that the Apple phones iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 also offer this option, but the function has not yet been made available. That has now changed thanks to yesterday's introduction of the MagSafe Battery or MagSafe Battery Pack. And how does it actually work?

When the MagSafe Battery is "snapped" to the back of the iPhone, to which you connect the Lightning cable, not only the phone, but also the added battery will start charging. In this case, the Apple phone directly charges its accessories. It is interesting that, although competitor Samsung, for example, strongly promoted the introduction of reverse charging, Apple never mentioned this possibility and did not practically make it available to its users. Although many sources have confirmed the presence of this function, until now no one was actually sure, as there was no opportunity for proper testing.

Reverse charging on the iPhone is of course currently limited only to the combination of the iPhone 12 (Pro) and the MagSafe Battery. Nevertheless, this is the first step, which could be a harbinger of something bigger. The aforementioned reverse charging is most often used by competitors to power wireless headphones and smart watches. It would therefore be interesting to see if Apple incorporated MagSafe into the AirPods. However, size could be an issue, as the MagSafe is slightly larger than the headphone case. Therefore, it will certainly be interesting to watch the upcoming steps of the apple company. For now, anyway, we can only hope that the function can be used even better in the future.
