Among other things, the new Apple Watch Series 5 also includes a built-in compass along with the native application of the same name. This allows users to better orient themselves in the field and provides them with a detailed overview of direction, slope, latitude, longitude and other data of this type. With the launch of the fifth series of smartwatches, Apple also introduced a new ordering system where customers can choose their own combination of watch case and strap. However, if you plan to use the aforementioned Compass app, you should avoid certain types of straps, according to Apple.

If you carefully read the fine print at the bottom site with the offer of straps to the Apple Watch on Apple's website, you may notice a note informing you that the magnets contained in some types of bands can interfere with the Apple Watch's compass. These are, for example, Milanese pull straps, Modern Buckle or a leather strap with a loop. Bands that do not contain magnets include Sport Bands, Sport Loop, Nike, Hermès or Link Bracelet.

It is a well-known fact that the proximity of a magnet can adversely affect the functioning of the compass, and of course it is not only the case with the Apple Watch. However, Apple apparently decided to alert its customers to this fact, just to be sure. In addition to the compass, the Apple Watch Series 5 offers cases made of new materials or an always-on display, you can try combinations of individual cases and straps in Apple Watch Studio.
