One of the world's most popular card games, Magic: The Gathering, will finally be released for the iPad after a long wait, confirmed the head of digital games at W.

Probably many of you younger ones spent your childhood with MtG or she is currently spending it with him. A very catchy card game with complex rules and a diverse selection of playing cards based on building your own decks has won the hearts of many players. However, the only disadvantage of the Magic is that it is financially demanding. You can pay up to several hundred crowns for individual cards, and how good you are depends not only on your skills, but also on the amount of pocket money (or other finances). This is also why I quit this game.

The computer version also has a longer tradition, the original Magic: The Gathering Online was created already in 2002 and enabled a similar game as with physical cards. The client itself was free, but it was necessary to pay ten dollars for registration, for which the player received a basic package, 300 regular cards and one booster. Additional boosters, containing expansion cards of different values, could be purchased separately. Thanks to the internet connection, you didn't have to look for players in local gaming rooms, but you could play with people from all over the world. Magic: The Gathering Online however, it was intended exclusively for the Windows operating system.

Due to the growing popularity of iOS devices, Wizards of the Coast was expected to introduce at least an iPad version, as many creators of popular board and card games have done. For all of them, you can name, for example Monopoly, Bang!, Catan (Settlers of Catan) or Carcassonne. However, for some unknown reason, the creators of Magic resisted this platform. But fans of the game can now rejoice, as plans for the iPad were revealed in a statement by Worth Wollpert, head of digital games at W:

“We're excited to make Magic: The Gathering even more accessible to our growing player base by expanding the list of platforms to include iOS on iPad for which Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013 will be available this summer.

With over two million downloads of the original Duels and Duels 2012 since its release in June 2009, our customers are clearly enjoying what we've done with the game so far, and we're very excited to offer new and existing Magic fans content and gaming capabilities on a globally widespread tablet, which is what many of our customers have been asking us for.”

However, Duels of the Planeswalkers is not a full port of the online game on Windows. This is more of a beginner's version, where help guides you through the basics and rules of the game. Once you've mastered the game against AI, you'll be able to compete against other players online. In addition, you cannot build your own decks, you will only have ready-made decks at your disposal. Despite these limitations, the previous installments were very successful, and we hope that the iPad version will be just as successful.
