At the ongoing Mobile World Congress 2014 in Barcelona, gaming accessories manufacturer Mad Catz presented a new CTRLi game controller supporting iOS 7. It is based on the concept of another successful Xbox 360 controller MLG Pro Circuit and while it shares a similar design, CTRLi is exclusively for iOS, meaning OS X Mavericks.

It is a Bluetooth controller unlike the MOGA and Logitech controllers, so it is compatible with all iOS devices. However, it has an interesting gadget for the iPhone – a special attachment can be screwed to the controller, which holds the phone using a spring clamp and thus allows you to play iOS games even on the go with a face not dissimilar to the Nvidia Shield or Nintendo 3DS. In addition, the attachment is universal and if the upcoming iPhone 6 changes the design or the diagonal, it will still be possible to use it.

The layout of the buttons is also interesting. CTRLi uses an extended interface with two analog sticks and a second pair of side buttons. However, the two analog sticks are not aligned at the bottom, the left stick has swapped places with the cross controller, just like we can see with the Xbox controller. The model in the photos is still only a prototype, but according to the server Engadget, who had the opportunity to test the controller, it seems very solid, at a similar level to quality game controllers. At the same time, the quality of processing was one of the biggest disappointments of the controllers for iOS 7 introduced so far.

The Mad Catz CTRLi is expected to hit the market in April this year in five colors – black, white, blue, red and orange. It will retail for $80, which is another good news considering competing controllers have come in at $20 more.
