A new virus has arrived on Mac, it can delete all your data

In today's modern world, there are a number of threats that can perform a variety of operations in an instant, from obtaining sensitive data to encrypting it. Although there are a number of really good anti-virus solutions, hackers are often one step ahead, so malicious software may not always be detected. Moreover, this has also been shown now. This is because a new ransomware, or a malicious type of virus that can block the system or encrypt data, which targets the macOS platform, has started to spread on the Internet. Fortunately, this problem is spread through pirated copies of the software, so the honest user has nothing to worry about.

Evil Quest
Source: Malwarebytes

The new virus was first reported by Malwarebytes, which develops the antivirus of the same name, and named the virus as EvilQuest. Where did the virus come from and how does it actually work? This ransomware first appeared on a Russian forum as a Little Snitch installer package. Moreover, at first glance, everything looks completely normal. You download the package, install it and suddenly you have a fully functional application. But the problem mainly lies in the fact that, in addition to the mentioned applications, an infected file named Patch and a startup script that automatically moves the file to the appropriate place in the system and then activates it also get into the Mac. Unfortunately, that's not all. At the same time, the script renames the mentioned file to CrashReporter, which is an elementary part of the macOS operating system, and therefore it is very difficult to identify the virus in Activity Monitor at all.

Once you install Little Snitch from the Russian forum and turn it on, you will encounter some serious problems. The infected file immediately encrypts a number of your data, which does not even miss the Klíčenka application. Since this is ransomware, the second part comes after the system is attacked. You will be shown a window with information about paying $50 for unlocking, i.e. almost CZK 1. Never pay this amount at any cost. This is a fraud, with the help of which the attacker can make a decent amount of money, but the decryption will not happen. According to Malwarebytes, the virus is programmed quite amateurishly, because the mentioned window does not always appear and often the program crashes completely. Another problem could be a key logger. When similar viruses are installed, it often happens that a so-called key logger is also installed along with them, which records all your keyboard entries and sends them to the attacker. Thanks to this, he can find out your sensitive data, payment card numbers and other valuable information.

What EvilQuest looks like (Malwarebytes):

If you are one of the software pirates and have been lucky enough to be infected with the EvilQuest virus, do not despair. To remove it, you just need to install Malwarebytes antivirus, run the scan and you're done. However, all encrypted data, which you will irretrievably lose, will be deleted along with the virus. So if you haven't backed up, you're out of luck.

Spotify launches couples subscription for two

After more than a year of testing in selected countries, we finally got it. Spotify is officially launching a new subscription for couples or roommates. This plan is called Premium Duo and will cost you €12,49 per month (roughly CZK 330). The only condition is that you live at the same address - as with the family model. The Premium Duo version also comes with a great advantage. Spotify will automatically create a playlist called Duo Mix for these users, which will contain the favorite songs of both users. Additionally, this playlist will be available in two versions. Specifically, it is Calm for calmer listening and energetic Upbeat. You can switch to a new subscription now, but it is necessary to remember that both users must have the same address to activate it. This model is primarily aimed at partners or roommates who can save money on listening to music this way.
