On the occasion of today's developer conference WWDC21, Apple presented us with its new operating systems, among which of course the expected macOS Monterey. It received a number of interesting and pleasant improvements. So using Macs should be a little more friendly again. So let's summarize what news the giant from Cupertino has prepared for us this time. Definitely worth it!

The presentation itself was opened by Craig Federighi talking about how well macOS 11 Big Sur turned out. Macs were used more than ever during the coronavirus period, when Apple users also benefited from the possibilities brought by the M1 chip from the Apple Silicon family. The new operating system now brings a significant dose of functions for even better collaboration across Apple devices. Thanks to this, it also brings improvements to the FaceTime application, the quality of calls has improved and the Shared with You function has arrived. There is also the implementation of Focus mode, which Apple introduced in iOS 15.

universal control

A rather interesting function is called Universal Control, which allows you to control both Mac and iPad using the same mouse (trackpad) and keyboard. In such a case, the apple tablet will automatically recognize the given accessory and thus allow it to be used. Thanks to this, it is possible to use, for example, a MacBook to control the mentioned iPad, which works perfectly smoothly, without the slightest hitch. To make it even easier to use, Apple bet on supporting the drag-and-drop function. The novelty should significantly boost the productivity of apple growers and, moreover, it is not limited to just two devices, but can handle three. During the demonstration itself, Federighi showed a combination of MacBook, iPad and Mac.

AirPlay to Mac

Along with macOS Monterey, the AirPlay to Mac feature will also arrive on Apple computers, which will make it possible to mirror content from, for example, an iPhone to a Mac. This can be useful, for example, during a presentation at work/school, when you can immediately show something from the iPhone to your colleagues/classmates. Alternatively, the Mac can be used as a speaker.

Arrival Abbreviations

What apple growers have been calling for for some time now is finally becoming a reality. macOS Monterey brings Shortcuts to the Mac, and the first time you turn it on, you will find a gallery of various (basic) shortcuts that are specifically created for the Mac. Of course, there is also cooperation with the Siri voice assistant among them, which will improve Mac automation even more.

Safari

The Safari browser ranks among the best in the world, which Federighi pointed out directly. Safari is proud of great features, takes care of our privacy, is fast and not demanding on energy. If you think about it, you will immediately realize that the browser is the program in which we often spend the most time. That is exactly why Apple is introducing a number of changes that should make the use itself even more pleasant. There are new ways to work with cards, more efficient display and tools that go straight to the address bar. In addition, it will be possible to combine individual cards into groups and sort and name them in different ways.

To top it all off, Apple introduced Tab Groups synchronization across Apple devices. Thanks to this, it is possible to share individual cards between Apple products in different ways and switch between them immediately, which will also work on iPhone and iPad. In addition, a nice change is coming on these mobile devices, where the home page will look exactly like it does on a Mac. In addition, they will also receive the extensions that we know from macOS, only now we will be able to enjoy them in iOS and iPadOS as well.

shareplay

The same feature that iOS 15 received is now also coming to macOS Monterey. We are specifically talking about SharePlay, with the help of which it will be possible to share not only the screen during FaceTime calls, but also the currently playing songs from Apple Music. Call participants will be able to build their own queue of songs that they can switch to at any time and enjoy the experience together. The same applies to  TV+. Thanks to the presence of an open API, other applications will also be able to use this function. Apple already works with Disney+, Hulu, HBO Max, TikTok, Twitch and many others. So how will it work in practice? With a friend who may be halfway around the world, you will be able to watch a TV series, browse funny videos on TikTok, or listen to music via FaceTime.
