Several long days have passed since the introduction of new operating systems from Apple. During these days, articles appeared daily in our magazine, in which we address new features and improvements. Specifically, we saw the presentation of iOS and iPadOS 15, macOS 12 Monterey, watchOS 8 and tvOS 15. Immediately after the end of the initial presentation, where the aforementioned systems were presented, Apple made their first developer beta versions available. These are primarily intended for developers, but they can be installed relatively easily by an ordinary user as well. In this tutorial, we will cover another feature from macOS 12 Monterey.

macOS 12: How to set the top bar not to hide in full screen mode

If you currently switch to full-screen mode on your Mac, that is, if you switch any of the open windows to this mode, the top bar will be automatically hidden. If you want to view the bar in full screen mode, you have to move the cursor all the way up. Of course, this may not suit all users, which Apple realized in macOS 12 Monterey. You can now set the top bar not to be hidden in full screen mode. Just proceed as follows:

  • First, on a Mac running macOS 12 Monterey, tap on in the upper left corner of the screen icon .
  • Once you do so, select an option from the menu that appears System Preferences…
  • Next, a new window will appear with all available preferences for managing system preferences.
  • Within this window, locate and click on the section named Dock and menu bar.
  • Then make sure you are in the tab in the sidebar Dock and menu bar.
  • In the end, you just need to in the lower part of the window ticked off possibility Automatically hide and show menu bar in full screen.

So, through the above procedure, Mac in macOS 12 Monterey can be set to not automatically hide the top bar after you go to full screen mode. The top bar will thus remain displayed even in full-screen mode. This can be useful, for example, for those users who want to always be up to date, for example regarding the time. It's definitely great that Apple gave users a choice in this case.
