In recent times, it has become customary for Apple to release operating system updates for its devices shortly after the regular June Keynote. This year will most likely not be an exception either, when, among other things, a new version of macOS should see the light of day. What improvements could macOS 10.14 bring?
An integral part of the release of new Apple software are also predictions and guesses about what the new operating system updates will bring. Apple's June developer conferences are traditionally focused on software, especially macOS and iOS. Dan Moren, editor of a well-known magazine MacWorld, compiled an overview of the improvements that macOS 10.14 could bring. The generation of operating systems called OS X/macOS has been around a bit longer than Classic Mac OS at the moment. During that time, users have seen a number of improvements, but it would be naive to say that there is nothing to improve on macOS.
This is how the designer imagines the new generation of macOS Alvaro Pabesio:
Productivity
macOS offers a wide range of third-party applications focused on productivity. However, many users are satisfied with native apple applications, which are also characterized by great integrity and are free - it would therefore be a shame not to use this potential. Some of the native apps – like Mail for example – definitely deserve a complete overhaul and more new features to stand up to the competition as best they can. The same goes for the native Calendar app. Although it suits a lot of users, a lot of people prefer competing applications mainly because of the "smarter" functions. According to Moreno, the Apple Calendar could be improved not only in terms of functionality, but also in terms of appearance.
Media
If you were to ask users which part of macOS they find most problematic, many of them would surely name iTunes. Some users have resigned and do not use iTunes at all, or resort to this use only in extreme cases. In many cases, iTunes is no longer needed even for updating iOS or for backups, so it sits unnoticed without significant improvement. But it is still a relatively important part of macOS, the upgrade of which is definitely desirable - the iTunes menu, for example, would deserve a redesign, users would certainly welcome a better overview and simplification of the application. Among the almost forgotten components of the macOS operating system, the QuickTime Player application also made its way. According to Moreno, it would greatly benefit from an improvement in the form of the ability to copy and paste selected parts of multimedia files, extract individual songs, adjust the playback speed and other elements that are a matter of course in a number of similar third-party applications.
And what else?
Dan Moreno's statement is neither a prediction of new features in the upcoming version of macOS nor a comprehensive list of what Apple could improve. From his purely user point of view, the apple company could also better integrate the HomeKit platform into the macOS operating system, he would also welcome system-wide support for animated GIFs (because GIFs are needed), improvements to the Photos application, and a number of other things.
What about the others? Users on Internet forums mainly call for deeper integration of Siri so that the Mac can be controlled better with its help, a full-fledged Dark Mode, improvements to some native applications or a redesign of the Mac App Store are often on the wish list.
I would appreciate a Dark Mode, iOS-style Appstore, and revamped Finder and Preview. I don't use Siri at all.
I would appreciate far more changes in the MBPro - a return to the classic keyboard, including getting rid of the old *** touch bar (a small piece the size of one key for TouchID, on the other hand, I would appreciate), trackpad to its original size, magsafe in combination with USB-C
Hello,
What's wrong with the TouchBar? I personally use it daily. Maybe it's because I bought my first Mac a year ago and learned how to use it.
On the contrary, I agree here with the opinions that the Finder deserves to be redesigned and the stability of the system is also not great, I expected Apple to trample it for months without the need for a restart, on the contrary, I have to do it every 14 days in order for the system to recover.
The Appstore should also be redesigned. The vast majority of good apps are installed outside the appstore, something will happen.
try to reduce the brightness of the keyboard and the other way around, it's all messed up, I haven't noticed it with anyone else, but this is how I "screw up" the touchbar on every mac here at work, and another thing that bothers me about it is that even when I set it there so that the classic buttons are displayed there instead of the one that changes the content, so that when I connect the monitor, what I want to do with it is always displayed there, although it is the monitor that I use every day
A more stable system…
I would appreciate it if they mainly worked on removing the bug from the system. The last three versions of the Mac OS are getting worse and the stability of the system is deteriorating... slowly it is getting to a state where at least one restart of the system a week is a necessity.
So it's better to debug and solve problems than to add emoji type crap...
Apple could start by fixing swapping in OS X, it's a crazy bug that's been around for a long time. But adding black, yellow, green emoticons is many times easier.
So what do you play your music on when iTunes is so bad?
