Apparently, Apple is serious about moving to standard keyboards. According to the latest information, all new computers will leave the butterfly keyboard as early as next year.

The information was brought by the well-known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. In addition, the report also contains a specification of the deadline. Laptops should return to the standard scissor mechanism keyboard as early as mid-2020.

Apple is negotiating with Taiwanese supplier Winstron, which should be the main supplier of the new keyboards. The analytical report was received by the TF International Securities server.

The question remains whether the current procedure will not delay the arrival of the new 16" MacBook Pro. According to some indications, he could be a pioneer and bring back the keyboard with a scissor mechanism. On the other hand, if Apple is still negotiating with suppliers, this option seems unlikely.

Service program also for this year's MacBooks

In addition, the macOS Catalina 10.15.1 system update revealed two new icons belonging to the new 16" MacBook Pro. But on closer inspection, apart from the narrow bezels and separate ESC key, we can't judge whether it confirms or refutes the information regarding the switch to the tried and tested scissor mechanism of keyboards.

The butterfly mechanism has been plagued by problems ever since it was introduced in the first 12" MacBook in 2015. Over the years, the keyboard has undergone several revisions, but each time there have been problems with functionality. Apple has always claimed that only a small percentage of users have problems. In the end, however, we received a comprehensive service program, which paradoxically includes models from this year 2019. Apparently, Apple itself no longer believes in the latest generation of butterfly keyboards.

Switching back to the standard scissor mechanism would thus solve at least one burning problem of the current MacBooks.
