The newly introduced MacBook Air is offered by Apple with only one type of processor, with which all interested parties must be satisfied. Specifically, it is a dual-core Core i5-8210Y, which offers four virtual cores, but still belongs to the family of 5 (7)W processors, which are performance-limited. Now there has been an indication that a slightly more powerful processor could appear in the Air.

In the results database benchmark A few hours ago Geekbench showed a remarkable record of an unknown or unsold Apple product with code AAPJ140K1,1. This Mac has a more powerful sibling of the aforementioned i5 processor. It is the i7-8510Y model, which Intel has not yet officially published even in its ARK database.

It is a more powerful dual-core with a working frequency of 1,8 GHz and Turbo Boost at an as yet unspecified level. The MacBook Air with this processor and 16 GB of RAM achieved a score of 4/249 points, which is about 8% higher than the standard configuration.

According to the founder of Geekbench, there is no indication that this is a fake result. Even the motherboard identifier matches. It is thus essentially certain that this is a yet-to-be-published configuration of the new Air. For the time being, we do not know why the MacBook Air with this processor was not included in the offer, and we can only speculate. According to foreign comments, Intel had problems with initial production and there would not be enough of the more powerful processors when the computer premiered last week. If this is indeed the case, we can expect a relatively soon specification update.
