A week ago we informed you about the second action in the Mac App Store. For three weeks, Apple offers selected applications at a bargain price.
It is now the last week of the event. Apple offers applications in the Mac App Store in the category Use which are simply Mac helpers. I had the chance to watch all the apps for three weeks and I have to say that this week is definitely the best. The following apps are available for half the regular price for a week:
- 1Password – a great manager of passwords, logins, software, licenses and various data. I can't imagine my Mac without this app. I am not a supporter of expensive applications, but this is really the chosen one, for which CZK 555 is worth investing. It offers a large number of functions, backup and synchronization on Mac or directly to Dropbox and, above all, extensions for web browsers, so you will never have to wonder "...what is the login and password on this page". There is also a version for iOS that can be synchronized with OS X.
- Fantastical – again an almost perfect application, this time a calendar in the menu bar. Our team will help you make a decision review.
- Pop Clip – a mini application to the menu bar that adds the pop-up bubble known from iOS to Mac. You can read more in our review with a video demonstration.
- soulver – this application allows you to easily calculate, convert and calculate in various ways. It even handles things you would otherwise have to do in Numbers or Excel. You can subsequently export equations, conversions and calculations to PDF and HTML.
- Snagit - a very advanced tool for recording images and videos on Mac and then sharing them.
- clarify – is a tool for more advanced creation of screenshots on Mac and their subsequent annotation. You choose exactly what you want to take a picture of, add captions and other annotations to the image, and then share it as a PDF via Dropbox, Clarify-it.com or via e-mail.
- mSecure – this is a cheaper variant of 1Password. It also allows you to hide various data, logins and passwords. It offers everything with a difference – the user interface, price and features are very different from 1Password.
- Drop zone – extension applications that make certain tasks a breeze. Zip file and add to email? Move files to this folder? Upload a photo to Flickr or Dropbox and get a URL link? All thanks to Dropzone and dragging the file to the icon in the menu bar or to the "circles" on the side of the monitor.
- yoink – when you try to move a file, image, link, etc. to another location/desktop on your Mac (email, folder, hard drive), Yoink will activate on the left side of the screen and allow you to temporarily save the file there. Then you move it to where you need it and drag the file to its place from the Yoink application. Simple and smart.
- keycard – is indeed an interesting application. Using Bluetooth technology and pairing with an iOS device, it can lock your Mac when you move the iOS device out of range. The Mac is locked and can only be unlocked by zooming in on the iOS device or using a code of your choice. A nifty gadget that prevents prying eyes from accessing your Mac and saves you a lot of time locking and unlocking your Mac every time you boot it away. On these pages you can watch a sample video.
Which apps are worth paying attention to?
Definitely 1Password, which I recommend to everyone. With this application, life is much easier again. Then there's Yoink, which can ease the hassle of dragging files, images, and links across the entire system. Dropzone and Keycard are definitely worth considering. If you like some apps, don't hesitate and get them now at a discount. (Author's note: some apps also have trial versions on the developer's website for you to try.)
Why pay 16 euros for something that is free? KeePass is ported everywhere, just use GDrive or Dropbox and my passwords are encrypted literally everywhere (Mac, Win, Android...)
Keepas for mac os is such a pain that I switched to 1password. And I used it for a long time in a combination of Windows and iOS devices. :(
I can recommend PopClip, it seemed stupid to me, but after trying it, I can't praise it enough. Yoink is nice, simple and functional. I tried Dropzone for a while, but it only caused problems, it didn't work correctly and almost crashed my whole system. The keycard is excellent, but there would be better security than just a 4-digit code.
fantastical definitely yes, as well as 1pass :) .. too bad those words weren't there when I bought it a long time ago :)))
