Do you know what the best photomobile is today? According to the renowned DXOMark test, it is the Honor Magic4 Ultimate. However, its editors already had the opportunity to test the iPhone 14 Pro (Max) and it immediately took second place. The joke is that they reconsidered the meaning of testing again, when the iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max also improved.

When Apple released the iPhone 13 Pro last year, they took the fourth position in the test, while two models from other manufacturers managed to beat them before the introduction of the iPhone 14 Pro, and last year's professional iPhones therefore fell to sixth place. But then came another, and the fifth since the creation of the ranking, recalculation, and everything is different again. DXOMark so it tries to keep up with the times and wants to evolve as mobile photography technology itself evolves. It simply means that even a year-old phone is still among the top.

Only one point is missing

When you look at the innovations that the iPhone 14 Pro brought compared to last generation, it was improved in every way. The sensor has increased, the results in low light conditions have improved and we have a new video mode. Speaking of numbers, however, it is not such a shift. The iPhone 13 Pro has 141 points in the ranking, but the iPhone 14 Pro has only 5 points more, namely 146. What can be concluded from this?

Apart from the fact that iPhones are really the best photomobiles, even a relatively fundamental improvement does not mean a drastic shift in scoring. That is, if of course we refer to the said test and its methodology. At the same time, Honor Magic4 Ultimate has a lead of only one single point. But considering how well Apple's last year's model is doing, does it really make sense to keep improving cameras?

Let's not wait for change

In order for Apple to move the quality of the result further, it would naturally also have to increase the optics themselves. This is now not only larger, but also more voluminous, so that the larger lens diameters protrude even more above the surface of the back. Where does Apple want to go? We all know that iPhones with the Pro moniker take absolutely great photos, so wouldn't it be better to focus on creativity and user-friendliness now?

First of all - the raised module does not look very nice, even if you get used to it, as well as rocking the device on a flat surface, the thing that will always annoy you is the dirt catching. Second, what about finally adding a periscope? 3x zoom is nice, but it's no wonder. The competition can zoom in 5 or 10 times, and with it you can really enjoy more fun.

Unfortunately, the evaluation from DXOMark proves Apple right. To be honest, the way the company has gone with its cameras is the right way. So why would Apple bring anything else, such as a fourth periscope telephoto lens with 5x or more zoom, when it knows that if it keeps improving the existing one, it will still occupy the top spots in the test charts?
