A young girl wakes up in a darkened dungeon unable to remember anything. Beatrice, the sorceress, saves her from a pack of bloodthirsty monsters that will attack her. With her help, the mysterious girl, and you too, set out to explore the ancient ruins. Among them you will hopefully find answers to questions about her past and the nature of the world around her.

This is the premise of Altari Games' latest venture. The game Lost Ruins presents itself as an adventure through a mysterious world, which its developers wrapped in a pleasant retro aesthetic inspired by Japanese anime. At its core, however, it is a classic metroidvania, i.e. a genre in which you progress through a carefully structured game world and from time to time you unlock another part of it thanks to the acquisition of new abilities. However, Lost Ruins does not differ from other representatives of this genre only by its style, its original approach to its refined gameplay elevates it above them. In addition to the classic ways to disperse hordes of demonic enemies, Lost Ruins also offers you the opportunity to use pieces of the game environment against them.

You can let the ruins scattered around you fall on annoying enemies at will. In addition, the game world features basic natural elements that interact with others as you would expect in the real world. For example, you can use the properties of water to conduct an electric current and use the corresponding spell to fry a bunch of unwary enemies who are waiting for you ankle-deep in an innocent-looking puddle. In addition, of course, the game also offers a number of classic weapons, led by absurdly huge swords. Lost Ruins will please even those who don't want to bother with the use of spells and prefer to chop up enemies nicely.
