About location tags AirTags has been rumored for almost two years now, and it finally looks like we might be getting closer to their official launch. Because when else, if not with the update to the Find app and the spring apple conference. Apple AirTags should thus be a competitor to the popular Tile brand object trackers, as well as those from the company Chipolo or Samsung for that matter.

AirTags there will be small physical tags that can be attached to practically anything – backpacks, keys, you can put them in your wallet, luggage, or leave them in a parked car, etc. You will then be able to search for all these items using the Find app on your Apple devices. AirTags they will be able to work mainly thanks to the hundreds of millions of newer iPhones (and other devices with the U1 chip). It is thanks to this chip that it will be possible to precisely determine the location of the pendant, even though it itself will only be connected via Bluetooth. All this, of course, assuming full encryption. In the final, you don't have to be in his range at all, because the devices of other users who may just pass by will inform you of the location.

AirTags and their possibilities

The magazine has already reported on similar accessories that Apple could introduce 9to5Mac in June 2019, when he discovered mentions of it in the iOS 13 system - they specifically referred to the Tag1,1 label. Then the magazine revealed the name itself AirTags. But even Apple didn't pay attention, because various references to this accessory also appeared in his video. The beta of iOS 14.5 then provided the most fundamental information.

Although Bluetooth is limited to a range of 10 meters, Bluetooth LE reaches up to 120 meters. The use of this technology would thus greatly improve the use. AirTags should also come with UWB (ultra wideband) technology, which can search not only directionally, but also spatially. Devices that contain the U1 chip would also use this. GPS would not make sense in this regard (just like eSIM), also because of the energy requirements. Only with Bluetooth, the battery could last up to 300 days. The accessory could also include a button with which you could control various actions of the smart home. AirTags could also emit sounds so that they can better locate them (as part of spatial search). Competition in form Samsung Galaxy SmartTag is already on the market and one piece will cost you CZK 899. It can be expected that Apple will set the price a little higher, i.e. at 1 to 099 CZK per piece. But it is also necessary to count on the fact that we may not see the performance at all. Didn't Apple itself burn the pond for us with its update of the Find application?

A big question mark hangs over the show

Why should Apple AirTags even imagine? And didn't all the information found just refer to updating the Find app? Samsung has succumbed to the hype surrounding the whole "mythical" localization tag Apple, that he hastened his and Apple thus got ahead of him. But what if on the physical accessory v Cupertino they didn't work at all and they don't work? Why would it, when not only the company does the same job Chipolo and its solution, but also anyone else. Apple has released full integration into the Find system and application to third-party products, so its own tags would in a way only duplicate the capabilities of competitors. My personal opinion (that is, the author of the article) about the situation is that the spring event will not bring AirTags. And neither will any other in the future, because they simply don't make sense for Apple. But it is true that in this case I definitely like to get confused.
