In July 2021, Apple introduced an interesting novelty in the form of the MagSafe Battery Pack, or additional battery for iPhones 12 (Pro) and later, which just snaps onto the phone via MagSafe. In practice, this is the successor to the earlier Smart Battery Case covers. These contained an additional battery and connected directly to the Lightning connector of the device, thus guaranteeing an extension of its life. This piece works practically the same, with the exception that it uses newer technology and just clicks it in, which initiates the charging itself.

Although at first glance this is a great thing, thanks to which we can extend the life of the battery, the MagSafe Battery Pack still receives a wave of criticism. And we have to admit that quite rightly. The problem lies in the capacity of the additional battery itself. Specifically, it can charge iPhone 12/13 mini by up to 70%, iPhone 12/13 by up to 60%, iPhone 12/13 Pro by up to 60% and iPhone 12/13 Pro Max by up to 40%. Even with a single model, the endurance cannot be doubled, which is quite sad - especially when we take into account that the product costs almost 2,9 thousand crowns. However, it still has its undoubted advantage.

The main benefit is often neglected

Unfortunately, the deficiency in the form of a weaker capacity of the MagSafe Battery Pack strongly overshadows its main benefit. This lies in the compactness and reasonable dimensions of the entire additional battery. In this regard, however, it is necessary to look at it from the right side. Of course, if we attach the Battery Pack to the back of the iPhone, we will make it a less than tasteful device, as there will be an unaesthetic-looking brick on its back. We definitely do not find a benefit in this regard. On the contrary, it is possible to hide the battery practically anywhere and always have it at hand. Many apple users carry it, for example, in their breast pocket or bag, and in case of emergency, for example, when they return from work in the evening, they just clip it to the back of the iPhone and thus eliminate the threat of a dead battery.

It is this fact that makes the MagSafe Battery Pack a rather successful partner, which can be very useful for a certain group of people without the possibility of charging their phone during the day. They don't have to bother with carrying a classic power bank and cable, as they can have a better alternative that they can "plug in" practically immediately.

What should Apple improve?

As we mentioned above, the additional MagSafe battery faces considerable criticism. It's definitely a shame as this is a device with high potential if all the kinks were ironed out. In the first place, of course, is the weaker capacity, to which a lower power in the form of 7,5 W can be added. If Apple could fix these ailments (without increasing the price), it is highly likely that many Apple users would switch to the MagSafe Battery Pack she stopped looking through her fingers. Otherwise, the giant faces a loss to other accessory manufacturers who already offer significantly cheaper and more efficient alternatives.
