Nowadays, if you want to buy a cable that has a Lightning connector on one end for charging and data transfer to iPhones, iPads, iPods and other Apple accessories, and a USB-C connector on the other end, you have to contact Apple directly ( if you don't want to risk buying non-original accessories). However, this "monopoly" will end at the beginning of next year.

There is nothing wrong with original Apple cables except that they are relatively expensive. The original USB-C/Lightning cable costs NOK 590 for the one-meter version and NOK 990 for the two-meter version. You need these cables, for example, if you want to use the fast charging option, because they are capable of powering the target device with 18W+ power, unlike the current ones, which have a ceiling of 15W. They also come in handy, for example, when you want to charge (or simply connect) your iPhone/iPod/iPad from new MacBooks. Today, the news reached the website that Apple has released the production of USB-C/Lightning cables to other manufacturers who belong to the MFi (Made For iPhone) group, which is engaged in the production of officially supported accessories.

Since last week, Apple has been offering manufacturers in this group (Belkin, Anker, etc.) a new Lightning connector that they can order and use in the production of new cables. The price per piece is less than three dollars. The newly released connector with the internal designation C94, compared to its predecessors, will offer support for more powerful charging systems. Third-party accessory manufacturers can order the new connectors with the expectation that they will be delivered in about six weeks. From then on, they will be able to start production as such, and the first certified USB-C/Lightning cables will appear on the market around February.

The advantage of cables from external manufacturers will primarily be a significantly lower price compared to what Apple charges for them. There will also be many new designs, colors and different lengths. So if you are looking for a USB-C/Lightning cable, within three months there will be cheaper alternatives on the market than the only current solution from Apple.
