Both are leaders in their field. It is true about the Apple Watch that it is difficult to get a more ideal solution on your wrist than the iPhone, and about the Galaxy Watch4, the fact that with its Wear OS 3 it is supposed to be a full-fledged alternative for Android devices. Apart from notifying you about events in the connected device, they also measure activities. Which measures them better?

Although the devices do not actually compete directly, as the Apple Watch only communicates with iPhones and the Galaxy Watch4 only with Android devices, wearable electronics can also play a role in choosing a mobile phone. It is also because this segment of the market is still on the rise and ideally fits into the style of modern life. This, for example, in connection with TWS headphones, when Apple offers its AirPods, and Samsung has a portfolio of Galaxy Buds.

We therefore took both watches for a walk and compared the results. In the case of the Apple Watch Series 7, they were paired with the iPhone 13 Pro Max, in the case of the Galaxy Watch4 Classic, it was connected to the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE 5G phone. Once we had an Apple Watch on our left hand and a Galaxy Watch on our right, then we swapped the two watches between them, of course changing the hand setting as well. But the results were the same. That's it, it's good to know that it doesn't really matter if you have the watch on one hand or the other during the activity, and if you're right-handed or left-handed. So below you will find a comparison of the values that the watch measured during the activity.

Distance

  • Apple Watch Series 7: 1,73 km
  • Samsung Galaxy Watch4 Classic: 1,76 km

Speed/average pace

  • Apple Watch Series 7: 3,6 km/h (15 minutes and 58 seconds per kilometer)
  • Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Classic: 3,8km/h

Kilocalories

  • Apple Watch Series 7: active 106 kcal, total 147
  • Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Classic: 79 kcal

Pulse

  • Apple Watch Series 7: 99 bpm (range 89 to 110 bpm)
  • Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Classic: 99 bpm (maximum 113 bpm)

Number of steps

  • Apple Watch Series 7: 2 346
  • Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 Classic: 2 304

So there are some deviations after all. In both cases, the Apple Watch reported the previously "stepped" kilometer, which is why they also measured more steps, but paradoxically a shorter total distance. But Apple focuses primarily on calories, giving you a better overview of them, while the Galaxy Watch4 only shows one number without further details. As for the measured heart rate, the two devices rarely agreed, even if they did differ a little with the maximum.
