Mac OS X has a fairly useful feature and that is system-wide spell checking. The computer thus checks everything you write in any application without having a spell checker. Unfortunately, the Czech dictionary is missing from the system - that's why we bring you instructions on how to upload it to the system. Please note that this procedure only works on Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard.
- Download this file and unzip it.
- The archive contains two files, cs_CZ.aff a Cs_CZ.dic, you need to move them to the folder Macintosh HD/Library/Spelling/
- Be careful not to confuse the folder with another in the location {your user name}/Library/Spelling/, then this method would not work for you.
- Restart your computer.
- Open it System Preferences/Language & Text and open the bookmark text. Now you should be in the menu Spelling should have discovered the Czech language among others.
- You now have a functional Czech spelling checker.
and there should be a Slovak

So I searched in vain for the Spelling folder in Leopard on the Mac HD. Doesn't it only work under Snow Leopard?
Yes it is only for Snow Leopard.
I set it up as you write and I tried Thunderbird (EN), Adium and Pages, and the path check doesn't work anywhere and I have spelling turned on :(
I remember that I had to switch the document control from English to Czech in Pages (version 09).
The procedure was Inspector -> Text inspector -> More -> Language and select Czech.
I can confirm, I've been using this system for over a year, it's really only for SL, it's functional and reliable.
I have Snow Leopard, I installed it in the path (on macintosh not user), restarted and set it up, still the path does not work in page or word...
Does it work for you in other apps? Maybe in a notebook? It is possible that Pages and Word use their own dictionaries.
no, it doesn't even work in textedit, I don't know what it is. while everything is set correctly
Written from here:

No, I found the instructions on the Apple.com discussion forum http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=12344602
I will add the fact about functionality only on SL, thanks.
In addition, the author wrote it inconsistently: he concealed that it was a procedure only (!) for SL, so probably a lot of readers will uselessly labor at the computer and curse.
It works in Safari, it doesn't work in Firefox.
Firefox has its own spell checker as an add-on
I've been using the control for more than one Friday, but I'm solving a fundamental problem and the fact that I would need some quick switching between CZ and SK. We write in both Czech and Slovak, and I find switching via System Preferences very cumbersome, especially when I need to write just one email quickly. Does anyone know of a solution?
Apple+Spacebar
And instructions on how to completely and globally turn off the annoyance, wouldn't it? The spellchecker irritates me immensely, and when it appears automatically over and over again, it's unbearable... :(
the pixies...
sak delete the dictionaries...
thank you, text edit, pages, word works great
same as when I'm writing this right now - without diacritics
Dwarf: Have you ever tried it? Masox doesn't count on something like that at all. I don't know how the snowman, but the previous system brought such a thing to its knees.
Since the HD/Library/Spelling/ folder is no longer there in older versions of the system, can it be installed somewhere else?
Otherwise, this absence of basic system features makes Apple remind me of the bankrupt Palm Inc. He also coughed on "small" markets and it turned out accordingly - he was taken over by the HP company, for which no market is small.
