Yesterday afternoon we saw the presentation of the new 27″ iMac (2020) as expected. It has been rumored for a long time that Apple is preparing to introduce new iMacs. Some leakers said that we will see a design change and a complete redesign, while other leakers said that the design will be unchanged and Apple will only upgrade the hardware. If you've been leaning towards the leakers from the second group all along, you guessed right. The Californian giant has decided to leave the redesign for later, most likely for the moment when it introduces new iMacs with its own ARM processors. But let's work with what we have at our disposal - in this article we will look at a complete analysis of the news from the new 27″ iMac (2020).

Processor and graphics card

Right from the start, we can tell you that practically all news takes place only "under the hood", i.e. in the field of hardware. If we look at the processors that can be installed in the new 27″ iMac (2020), we find that the latest Intel processors from its 10th generation are available. In the basic configuration, an Intel Core i5 with six cores, a clock frequency of 3.1 GHz and a Turbo Boost value of 4.5 GHz is available. For more demanding users, the Intel Core i7 with eight cores, a clock frequency of 3.8 GHz and a Turbo Boost value of 5.0 GHz is then available. And if you are among the users who are extra demanding and who can use the processor's performance to the maximum, then the Intel Core i9 with ten cores, a clock frequency of 3.6 GHz and a Turbo Boost of 5.0 GHz is available for you. If you have at least a little knowledge of Intel processors, you know that they have a fairly high TDP value, so they can only maintain the Turbo Boost frequency for a few seconds. The high TDP is one of the reasons why Apple decided to switch to Apple Silicon's own ARM processors.

The second, very important piece of hardware is also the graphics card. With the new 27″ iMac (2020), we have a choice of a total of four different graphics cards, all of which come from the AMD Radeon Pro 5000 Series family. The base model of the new 27″ iMac comes with a single graphics card, a Radeon Pro 5300 with 4GB of GDDR6 memory. If you're looking for something other than the basic model, there are Radeon Pro 5500 XT graphics cards with 8 GB GDDR6 memory, while more demanding users can go for the Radeon Pro 5700 with 8 GB GDDR6 memory. If you are among the most demanding users and can use the performance of the graphics card to one hundred percent, for example during rendering, then the Radeon Pro 5700 XT graphics card with 16 GB GDDR6 memory is available for you. This graphics card is sure to handle even the toughest tasks you throw at it. However, we will have to wait a few days for the evidence related to the performance.

Storage and RAM

Apple deserves praise for finally removing the outdated Fusion Drive from the storage field, which combined a classic HDD with an SSD. Fusion Drive is slow to fix these days - if you're ever lucky enough to have an iMac with Fusion Drive and a pure SSD iMac next to each other, you'll notice the difference in the first few seconds. Therefore, the basic model of the 27″ iMac (2020) also now offers an SSD, specifically with a size of 256 GB. Demanding users, however, can select storage up to 8 TB in the configurator (always twice the original size). Of course, there is an astronomical surcharge for more storage, as is customary with the Apple company.

As for the operational RAM memory, there have been some changes in this case as well. If we look at the base model of the 27″ iMac (2020), we find that it offers only 8 GB of RAM, which is certainly not much for today. However, users can set up a larger RAM memory, up to 128 GB (again, always twice the original size). The RAM memories in the new 27″ iMac (2020) are clocked at a respectable 2666 MHz, the type of memories used is then DDR4.

Display

Apple has been using the Retina display not only for its iMacs for several years. If you expect the new 27″ iMac (2020) to have a change in display technology, you are sorely mistaken. Retina has been used even now, but fortunately it is not entirely without changes and Apple has brought at least something new. The first change is not quite a change, but rather a new option in the configurator. If you go to the configurator of the new 27″ iMac (2020), you can have display glass that is treated with nanotexture installed for an additional fee. This technology has been with us for a few months now, Apple first introduced it with the introduction of the Apple Pro Display XDR. The second change then concerns the True Tone function, which is finally available on the 27″ iMac (2020). Apple has decided to integrate certain sensors into the display, thanks to which it is possible to use True Tone. If you don't know what True Tone is, it's a great feature that changes the display of white color depending on the ambient light. This makes the display of white much more realistic and believable.

Webcam, speakers and microphones

The long insistence of apple enthusiasts is finally over - Apple has improved the built-in webcam. While for several long years even the latest Apple products have a built-in FaceTime HD webcam with a resolution of 720p, the new 27″ iMac (2020) came with a new built-in FaceTime webcam that offers a resolution of 1080p. We're not going to lie, it's not a 4K resolution, but as they say, "better than a wire in the eye". Let's hope that this is a temporary solution to appease Apple enthusiasts, and that with the arrival of redesigned iMacs, Apple will come with a 4K webcam, along with Face ID biometric protection - this module is found in iPhones. In addition to the new webcam, we also received redesigned speakers and microphones. The speech of the speakers should be much more accurate and the bass should become stronger, as for the microphones, Apple states that they can be considered studio quality. Thanks to all these three improved aspects, calls through FaceTime will be much more pleasant, but the new speakers will certainly be appreciated by ordinary users for listening to music.

Other

In addition to the aforementioned processor, graphics card, RAM and SSD storage, there is one more category in the configurator, namely Ethernet. In this case, you can choose whether your 27″ iMac (2020) will be equipped with classic gigabit Ethernet, or whether you will purchase 10 gigabit Ethernet for an additional fee. In addition, Apple has finally integrated the T27 security chip into the 2020″ iMac (2), which takes care of data encryption and the overall security of the macOS system against data theft or hacking. In MacBooks with Touch ID, the T2 processor is also used to protect this hardware, but the new 27″ iMac (2020) does not have Touch ID – perhaps in the redesigned model we will see the aforementioned Face ID, which will work hand in hand with the T2 security chip.

This is what the upcoming iMac with Face ID could look like:

Price and availability

You are certainly interested in how it is in the case of the new 27″ iMac (2020) with the price tag and availability. If you decide on the basic recommended configuration, prepare yourself a pleasant 54 CZK. If you like the second recommended configuration, prepare CZK 990, and in the case of the third recommended configuration, it is necessary to "draw out" CZK 60. Of course, this does not mean that this price tag is final - if you were to configure your new 990″ iMac (64) to the maximum, it would cost you almost 990 crowns. Regarding availability, if you choose one of the recommended configurations of the new 27″ iMac (2020) today (August 270th), then the fastest delivery is August 5th, then free delivery is August 27th. If you make any changes and order a custom configured 2020″ iMac (7) it will be delivered sometime between August 10th – 27th. This waiting time is certainly not long at all, on the contrary, it is very acceptable and Apple is ready.
