A new social network, HalloApp, appeared in the App Store and caused quite a stir. Not so much because of what she can do, but rather because of who is behind her. The authors are gentlemen who escaped from WhatsApp. But does this network currently have anything to offer? Yes, he has, but he will have a hard time. Very difficult.

Neeraj Arora was the business director of WhatsApp, while Michael Donohue was the technical director. Both worked in the company for many years, and from the accumulated experience they created their own title, HalloApp, which is largely inspired by WhatsApp. But he tries to go his own way and pays attention to safety. The official blog of the network proclaims it to be the first network for real relationships. Not as a dating site, but as a place to communicate with family and friends.

But, of course, one comes across a fundamental fact here - why use something new and force others to do it, when we already have captive services that are used by everyone anyway? It's like the Clubhouse. Everyone wants it, and other alternatives such as Twitter Spaces or Spotify Greenroom are not doing well. In addition, we already had so many social networks here with great potential that simply did not catch on with users.

Pros and cons

HalloApp requires a phone number to register and is only available on mobile devices. Unlike legacy social networks, HalloApp believes that privacy is a basic human right. That's why it connects you with friends and family, not imaginary friends you've never met and you have tons of on Facebook. It also never collects, stores or uses any personal data and will never show ads. In addition, your chats are end-to-end encrypted. That way, no one outside can read them, not even HalloApp.

BabelApp interface

Where did I hear that? Yes, Czech title BabelApp it has a similar characteristic, only it does not offer a feed in which you are shown posts like Facebook, on the other hand, it offers an even higher level of security because it offers Bitcoin protection directly on the server. But it is primarily a communication platform, which HalloApp is also betting on.

We're not stopping, we're late

The developers themselves then let it be known that they do not yet intend to undertake any advertising campaigns or anything similar to promote their news and recruit users. This is because their platform is only at the beginning of its journey and they want to fully debug it first before they officially tell the world all the details about it. But he wants to add to that, if it wasn't too late a year ago.

For the younger generation, it will be a less active source of information, the older generation will be lazy to learn something new when they are already using WhatsApp for communication and Facebook simply because they have been on it for so many years. Certainly, they will not cancel their accounts in the given networks because of any new and still uncertain platform. And if they move into HalloApp waters, they'll just have to manage another account, another network, another communication platform…
