Apple is currently back in the European Union's spotlight. This is mainly related to the new initiative to unify power connectors on devices. Sure, we already had one such "revolution" here. That's when all manufacturers except Apple started using micro-USB, and in recent years they started to replace it with the more modern and practical USB-C. Even Apple itself started using it on MacBooks and iPad Pro. Apple despite the fact that it is taking steps thanks to which alla his devices support USB-C to some extent, he reiterates that switching from the Lightning connector to USB-C would hurt innovation and the environment.

But the same Apple, at a time when other manufacturers united under pressure from the European Union, was transitioning from 30panother Dock connector to a completely new Lightning connector. The double-sided connector with smaller dimensions than micro-USB has to some extent become the inspiration for today's USB-C standard. But then, thanks to him, Apple faced criticism from users that they could just throw away all the accessories they had bought in previous years, because they were not compatible with the new iPhones and iPadsí. Just remember to iPad, with the unexpected announcement of the fourth generation just half a year after the release of the third, it happened exactlyě the same thing and it made the users even more angry. Because in this way a half-year-old device, which was even instantly withdrawn from sale, lost access to new accessories. And no, Apple did not comment on the environmental impact of its actions at the time.

The situation today, when society defends ecology, on mne looks funny. Rather, I'd say the main reason Apple is so worried about mandating USB-C on all iOS devices is the fear of zcontrol costs. To that, abyes could produce authorized accessories for iPhone or iPad, you must be included in the MFi (Made for iPhone/iPad) program and therefore must pay Apple licensing fees for using the proprietary connector. This also makes the add-ons more expensive because the bottom line of any legitimate company is to generate a profit, and few companies would be willing to save on out-of-pocket fees when they can shift that responsibility to customers. And Apple is also satisfied, because even the sale of licenses for the Lightning connector earns it money. If Apple switched to USB-C, it would mean losing control over who makes accessories for its devices.

Yes, switching to a new connector would of course mean a certain environmental risk and loss of compatibility with some accessories, thanks to whichž would users bei forced to switch to newer products. But I do not agree with the claim of billions in damages, especially when the further the moree manufacturers v led by Apple, it promotes wireless solutions where it is completely irrelevant which connector is used. Concern for the environment, however, sounds consumer-friendly.
