Most of us know Instagram as a photo sharing network. However, it has been quite a while since it broke out of this box. By constantly adding new functions, with which it is also greatly inspired by the competition, it rises to the dimensions of a full-fledged social platform, of course the most similar to Facebook. In addition, Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, recently said: "Instagram is no longer a photo-sharing app." He added that the company is also focusing on other things.

Mosseri shared the video on his Instagram and Twitter. In it, he explained certain plans that Instagram has for the app going forward. "We're always looking to create new features to help you get the most out of your experience," reports Mosseri. "Right now we're focusing on four key areas: creators, video, shopping and news."

FB Instagram app

A confusing, but supposedly fun juggernaut

The research conducted found that users go to Instagram for entertainment. Logically, the company will try to provide everyone with even more. The competition is said to be big and Instagram wants to catch up. But as it seems, Instagram wants to fight with everyone, and not just with its equals - i.e. "image" social networks. And the fact that he tries to be everything at once must necessarily mean that he will not be able to do anything properly.

We have already heard rumors that Instagram could also support its creators financially, as it would allow them some form of subscription for the opportunity to see premium content from them. And since the pandemic has taught us to shop online more than we did before it, it is a clear result to focus on this segment as well. Why should About You and Zalando take all the glory, right? Business is already one of the main tabs of the title. And it will continue to improve.

Communication in second place (just behind posts)

Already now you can chat and make video calls very well within Instagram. News is said to be coming here as well. But this has been talked about for years, and the merger of WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram, i.e. the three titles that enable communication, is nowhere to be found. In practice, it's only a matter of time before we see a Clubhouse clone on Instagram, and some form of dating site is also offered, which is already available on Facebook. Throw in a bazaar, streaming music and movies, etc.

So Moseri is actually right, Instagram is no longer about photography. It is about so many things that one slowly begins to get lost in them, a novice can hardly get a hold of them. I understand the effort and actually understand it, but that doesn't mean I agree with it. The old days of Instagram had a certain charm that could be recommended to others, but today?

Everything is different in the current Instagram, and if someone asked me to define this network in one sentence, I probably wouldn't even be able to do it. However, if he then added whether there was any point in diving headlong into its waters, I would have to disappoint him. Maybe I'm a useless can, but I really don't like the look of Instagram today. The worst part is that I know it won't get any better.
