Apple Watch is said to be 10 years ahead of its competition. That's according to Apple analyst Neil Cybart from Above Avalon. Apple is said to have overtaken everyone thanks to its focus on developing its own chip, a great environment and an interconnected ecosystem. But where Apple is miles ahead, elsewhere it is miles behind. The first Apple Watch, also referred to as Series 0, was introduced in 2015. At that time, a similar solution did not exist and deservedly aroused positive reviews. In the age of fitness bracelets, real smart watches came, which were hampered only by their poor performance. However, Apple has already debugged this in subsequent generations. Cybart in your message mentions that even six years after the launch of the first Apple Watch, there is no qualitatively comparable product, which is why Apple also dominates the market.

Special numbers

Thanks to their own chip, the Apple Watch is said to be four to five years ahead of the competition. Design-led product development adds another 3 years to the lead, building an ecosystem adds another two years. 5 + 3 + 2 = 10 years, which the analyst mentions that companies lack to catch up with the advantages of Apple's smart watch. However, these values do not add up, but run simultaneously from the starting point.

So, if the competition started working at full speed at the moment of the presentation of the first Apple watch, we should have had a full-fledged competitor here for a year who could not compete with them in anything, and he is not here. However, there are many smart watches. Not only Samsung has them, but also Honor or the premium Swiss brand Tag Heuer and others. And even they can do a lot these days.

Even though the Apple Watch is only compatible with iPhones, it occupies more than one-third of the market. A market that also includes cheap bracelets from Xiaomi and other brands. After all, they also lead in overall sales of watches, regardless of whether they are smart or mechanical. In addition, TWS headphones are also included in the so-called Wearables.

Development priority

But where the competition fell asleep and tried to catch up with Apple, it overtook it elsewhere. In 2015, it focused on smart assistants and smart speakers. Instead of investing in watches, her finances flowed more in this direction, and it can also be seen in the result. Virtually any solution is better than Apple's Siri and HomePod combination. It was the HomePod that was introduced in 2017, and it did not register a sales success. That's why the company replaced it with the HomePod mini.

But this technology is dependent on the voice assistant that you communicate with through the speaker. Siri was the first, but since 2011 it has only been treading very lightly and its global expansion is still struggling. This is also why the HomePod is not even officially sold in our country. This does not change the fact that this duo is still very usable, but it could be even more.

New battlefield coming soon

So when it comes to the market for wearables and smart accessories, one is catching up with the other and vice versa. Soon, however, the fight will start on a new front, which will be augmented reality. In it, Apple scores thanks to its LiDAR scanner, with which it has already installed iPad Pro and iPhone 12 Pro. Since 2015, it has also been buying companies dealing with this topic (Metaio, Vrvana, NextVR and others).

Competing companies already have some accessories (Microsoft HoloLens, Magic Leap and Snap Spectacles), but they are not widespread or popular yet. Everything will be solved by Apple, which will set a certain "benchmark" with its headset. And it will only be fun what this relatively young segment can bring us. We should find out next year. But the most important thing will be if Apple tells us what this technology can actually be used for. So far, not only potential customers are fumbling in this regard, but actually perhaps even the companies themselves.
