The white was enough. Although white is directly iconic for some apple products, it is never too late to change. After all, this was confirmed, for example, with accessories such as Magic Keyboard, Magic Trackpad and Magic Mouse. The aforementioned products first claimed the floor a few years ago, with the last update in 2015 – if we don't count the Magic Keyboard with Touch ID, which arrived last year alongside the 24″ iMac with M1. And it was these pieces that became space gray after a certain period of time, which immediately gained a new wave of popularity.

The new space gray versions came along with the new iMac Pro in 2017. When you think about it, it might seem at first glance that the transition from white to the new color only took two years. But it is a question of how we will look at this whole problem. In this particular case, we take the time since the last released version, which really equals two years. But if we look at it from a broader perspective and include previous generations, the result will be completely different.

So let's break it down one by one, with the Magic Mouse first. It was presented to the world for the first time in 2009, and it even needed pencil batteries to power it. A year later, the Magic Trackpad arrived. From the keyboard point of view, it's a bit more complicated. As such, the Magic Keyboard replaced the earlier Apple Wireless Keyboard in 2015, and that's why the keyboard is probably the only piece that we can really count on for only two years.

Space gray mice, trackpads and keyboards look great. This statement also applies doubly when you use it in combination with a Mac in the same colors, thanks to which you have practically the entire setup perfectly matched. But here a minor problem arises. As we mentioned above, this particular accessory was specifically designed to be used with the iMac Pro. But it officially stopped being sold last year. After all, for this reason, the aforementioned accessories gradually began to disappear from apple stores, and today you cannot officially buy them in the Apple Online Store.

Will the other products get a recolor?

But let's move on to our most fundamental question, whether Apple will ever decide to recolor some of its products. As we mentioned in the introduction, some Apple fans would certainly appreciate AirPods or AirTags in space gray, for example, which honestly could look good. But if we look at the story of the Magic Mouse, Keyboard and Trackpad, we probably won't be happy. The white color is typical for some apple products, which makes it unlikely that the Cupertino giant would commit to such a change in the current situation.

This is also supported historically. Every major Apple product has its trademark, which is also one of the company's simple but extremely convincing and functional tactics. In the vast majority of cases, this role was replaced by the company's logo - a bitten apple - which we can find practically everywhere. Earlier MacBooks even lit up, but after the removal of the glowing logo, Apple opted for an identification mark in the form of a text mark under the display to at least distinguish its device somehow. And this is exactly what Apple was thinking about when developing the Apple EarPods wired headphones. In particular, the headphones are so small that there is no chance to visibly place the logo on them. So it was enough to look at the competitive offer, when the individual models were primarily black, and the idea was born - white headphones. And as it seems, Apple is sticking to this strategy to this day and quite possibly will stick to it for some time. For now, you will have to settle for white headphones or AirPods Pro, which are also available in space gray.
