Fifth generation networks are knocking on the door and the acronym 5G has been heard more and more recently from all sides. What can you look forward to as a regular user and what advantages will technology bring to users of fast mobile internet? See an overview of key information.

5G networks are an inevitable evolution

For a long time, not only computers and laptops, but also consoles, home appliances, tablets and, last but not least, smartphones have depended on Internet connection. Along with how they swell date transmitted on mobile devices, the demands on the stability and speed of wireless networks are growing. The solution is 5G networks, which do not replace 3G and 4G. These generations will always work together. However, this does not change the fact that older networks will be gradually replaced by new technology. However, the innovation is planned without a definitive date and the expansion will certainly take several years.

The speed that changes mobile internet

With the onset of newly built and operational networks 5G users should have a connection with an average download speed of around 1 Gbit/s. According to the operators' plans, the connection speed should definitely not stop at this value. It is gradually expected to increase to tens of Gbit/s.

However, the fundamental increase in transmission speed is not the only reason why the new 5G network is being built and is actively preparing for commissioning. This is primarily because the number of devices that need to communicate with each other is constantly growing. According to Ericsson's estimate, the number of smart devices connected to the Internet should soon reach approximately 3,5 billion. Other novelties are significantly low network response, better coverage and improved transmission efficiency

What does the 5G network bring to users?

In summary, the regular user can look forward to a reliable one in practice Internet, faster downloads and uploads, better streaming of online content, higher quality of calls and video calls, a range of completely new devices and unlimited tariffs.

North America has a bit of a lead so far

The commercial launch of the first 5G networks in North American countries is already planned for the end of 2018, and a more massive expansion should occur in the first half of 2019. Around 2023, approximately fifty percent of mobile connections should be running on this system. Europe is trying to catch up with overseas progress and is estimated to have around 5% of users connected to 21G in the same year.

The biggest boom is expected in 2020. So far, estimates speak of an approximately eightfold increase in mobile data traffic. Already now mobile operators they are testing the first transmitters in Europe. Vodafone even conducted one open test in Karlovy Vary, during which a download speed of 1,8 Gbit/s was achieved. Are you getting excited?
