If you think that being second is something bad, then in the case of Apple, it is rather incredible numbers. Logically, he is at a disadvantage from every point of view. In addition, it is still growing, and even if iOS probably won't dislodge Android from the first place, it is not so unrealistic in the case of smartphone sales. Even so, he still has to watch his back.

Currently, two statistics have been published. One relates to mobile phone sales and the other to the use of operating systems, with the whole world in mind, of course. At the same time, Apple and its iPhones and iOS can emerge as winners from both.

The market is falling, but the leaders are getting stronger

SOCIETY Canalys released the results of Q1 2022 smartphone sales across the globe. Due to unfavorable economic conditions, increases in cases of the omicron mutation of COVID-19, generally weak post-Christmas demand and uncertainty regarding the Russia-Ukraine crisis, the entire market fell by a high 11%. Even so, the main two players strengthened. These are Samsung, which jumped by 5% compared to the Christmas season and by 2% year-on-year to 24%, and Apple, which, on the other hand, improved by 3% year-on-year and thus has an 18% market share.

Phone Sales Q1 2022

At the expense of these growths, others had to fall. Samsung had a strong start to the year mainly due to its new Galaxy S21 FE 5G and the Galaxy S22 range of smartphones, which is its flagship for the year. In addition, he also added mid-range news in the form of Galaxy A models. In contrast, Apple still benefited from autumn news in the form of the iPhone 13 and 13 Pro, whose deliveries have already stabilized. He then supported them with a new color or introduced the 3rd generation iPhone SE model.

The third Xiaomi fell by one percent year-on-year from 14 to 13%. For Apple, however, this is the most dangerous player, because in certain periods it comes uncomfortably close, but with the Christmas season, the American company always manages to bounce back. The fourth Oppo also fell by a percentage, to 10%, the fifth company vivo belongs to 8%. Other brands then occupy 27% of the market.

Android crashes steadily

It probably won't surprise you that 7 out of 10 mobile phones run on Android. It can clearly be based on the smartphone sales numbers mentioned above. Historically, however, its share has been continuously decreasing, and this, of course, with regard to the constantly growing sales of iPhones with their iOS.

Web Analytics StockApps.com shows that Android has lost 5% of the market in the last 7,58 years. In January of this year, 69,74% belonged to Google's operating system. Apple's iOS, on the other hand, grew. From 19,4% in 2018, it managed to rise to the current 25,49%. Other operating systems, such as KaiOS, share the remaining 1,58% of growth.

So Android still looks relatively safe, and probably will continue to do so. But the more Apple grows, the more it will take away from the overall market pie. It is true that if the situation is more evenly distributed in the field of smartphone sales, here more or less everyone is only against Apple. It's really a shame that Samsung bricked their Bada OS. As the largest mobile phone manufacturer, it would be really interesting to see how its phones with its chips and system would fare against Apple's iOS and Google's Android.

If you were interested in the geographic distribution of systems, then iOS clearly leads only in the North American market, where it occupies 54% of it. It has a 30% share in Europe, 18% in Asia, 14% in Africa and only 10% in South America.
