Apple is reportedly waiting until 2020 to integrate next-generation 5G mobile network technology into its iPhones. However, according to Qualcomm president Cristian Amon, in the United States next year, the flagship of every Android smartphone manufacturer will support this network. The news about it was brought by the server CNET.

Amano specifically stated that support for 5G connectivity — at least for Android devices equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor — will happen around the holidays next year. According to him, 5G connectivity should be supported by all overseas operators by this time a year from now. "Every Android vendor is working on 5G right now," he told CNET.

Apple is currently in a patent dispute with Qualcomm. Disagreements have been going on for a long time - in early 2017, Qualcomm was accused by Apple of unfair business practices. Qualcomm countersued with a lawsuit over an alleged debt of seven billion dollars, and the whole dispute resulted in Apple's decision that Intel would continue to be its modem supplier. For their iPhones, they are targeting the upcoming 5G Intel 8160/8161 modems, but some of them will not enter mass production before the second half of next year – so they will not appear in finished devices until after the second half of 2020.

However, Apple has never been one of those who would headlong and immediately adopt the latest standards for mobile connectivity - its tactic is rather to wait until the given technology is properly tightened and the chips are optimized accordingly. For this reason, the possible later adoption of 5G networks by Apple should not be a disappointment or a negative phenomenon.
